Derby City 9 Ball Rules

Well, I'll mention them. I see that there are some changes in the DCC rules for 2020:

2020 DERBY CITY CLASSIC RULE CHANGES
One-Pocket: If a ball is made on the break, re-rack.

9-Ball:

The Outsville template will be used in place of the traditional triangle.

The 9-Ball is to be positioned on the spot when racking.

Once balls are placed inside the template, do not touch them.

If the template is not perfectly straight, call for a re-rack.

A minimum of 3 balls must cross the head-string, less pocketed balls.

There will be an 18” break-box.

------------

I assume that last year was rack your own, plastic triangle, no points count, and one on the spot.

Same rules as last year..

These rules are fine but allowing the 9 ball to count on the break (with rack your own) is asinine.

I had a guy make it three times on me in the bottom corner.

At least make it not count in the bottom corners, then its somewhat reasonable. :)

Did it go straight in with the template or did it get kicked in by the cue ball?

I'm fine with all the changes.

As Wybrook said, those 9-Ball rules were in effect in 2019.

[but not in 2018]
Hmm... I guess DCC was just reminding players who skipped a year. I missed/forgot the change and I was there, just not playing nine ball.

Last year the 3 balls above the headstring rule for a legal break was in place and it says that rule is new for 2020. Under the "Games" page on the event website under the Nineball rules/legal break they state four balls hitting the rails or a ball pocket as a legal hit. Anyone have thoughts on which is true or am I missing something. Thanks in advance

I just msg'd DCC FB page. See what they say.

I'm guessing you should pay attention to the newer one, but unless you want to practice the break specifically for this event, I would wait for the players' meeting or just ask the officials, "At nine ball, are we playing the three behind the line rule?" when you get there.

Stockpot-
I had the same thought/question after looking over rules on "Games" page, and then reading "new for 2020" information on Derby City Classic home page.

I deleted my original thread counting on the "new for 2020" information being the latest and most accurate.

Thanks to you and Bob Jewett for offering help and feedback.

I’m so glad you posted this lol. I try not to let stuff like this get to me but I get so curious when someone deletes something before I read it, especially a main thread. Woot :)

JazzyJeff87 -
I would have deleted my entire thread/question from the main page in forum if I actually knew how to do that. Lol.
Hopefully, this information helps others who may have had same question.

And thanks to Garczar for checking with Derby through Facebook.

Lol. It should have the option to delete a thread that hasn’t had any responses yet but from what I’ve seen people ask the moderator to delete it.

Either way it’s cool someone else came with the same issue
