Derby City Classic.....?????

I was lucky a couple years ago at DCC, and my room mate had a wireless setup with his cell, so we could run 3 laptops in the room for free.
Nice to hear from you, hope all is well.

The cost for wi fi in your room is 10.95 a 24 hour day so you can actually bridge tow days. If you want to use wi fi at the hotel then its 24.95 a day. I have 3g and got it just for this tournament. I have sent several emails to their hotel people and they say giving us a 10 day discount is enough. I pointed out that any hotel that wanted to sell out for ten days during the winter would give us a discount AND have free internet, refrigerators, microwaves, but not this joint. Just another reason to hold the DERBY event in Kentucky.

Agree 100%. For those that dont know, unless you like $48 cashews and $23 airplane size whiskey bottles you best stay away from the fridge.....lol. The first year they had them I got a $50 charge for using the fridge and I stayed away from it like a land mine, it was a mistake and several others had the same problem which wasnt really a big deal, kinda funny actually. Its just like Leo Getz (Joe Pesci) said in Lethal Weapon, "they F you in the drive through". If not for the mass amounts of cash the casino generates it would almost be understandable for the internet rate due to the fact that the place wasnt even on our GPS last year. They would have a hard time keeping a straight face and saying a few peak days or weeks during the year wouldnt cover their internet cost for the hotel guests.

It's the best tourney there is.

I want to go to the DCC one day.. would be wesome!!

Other than Vegas in May. When VNEA or BCA is in Vegas, I would rather be there. 2 things make the Vegas tournies better than DCC. There are about 10,000 players converging to play in multiple events, with a million beautiful women everywhere you turn. And reason 2,,,, I get to stay for 10 days instead of just 4 or 5.... But DCC is the absolute best tourney I have ever been to, with all kinds of top rated Pro players.

Only way the casino will listen is if the majority of players and spectators stay in other hotels. Let them have a year where less than half the hotel is booked and see if they don't change their tune or the event gets moved.

But lets face it I bet over half the players don't even have cars and the general public are sheep so they will just continue to bend over and take it.

This year if I go I'm gonna try to find a hotel far enough away from the casino that they aren't price gouging.

Free internet is a staple at hotels but not at Casino-Hotels. I was just at the MGM Grand in Vegas for the Mosconi Cup. When I checked in they told me I had to pay a $20 per day mandatory Resort Fee.

"So what does that get me?" I asked. "Internet and access to the pool".

"Hmm, but the pool is closed and I have my own internet access."

"Yeah, most do, but the fee is mandatory".

The problem seems to stem from the idea that folks who stay in hotels are business people. They expect internet access. Folks who go to Casinos are there to blow away money and the Casinos are more than willing to assist in this effort.

Which starts me off on the tangent of how much better run Las Vegas was when the mob ran it. But I shan't bore you with that.

You are correct. I'm never delighted when forced to buy tack on charges. I get this same feeling sometimes with Apple.

The RIO rooms were much bigger-nicer than the MGM rooms at 1/4 the price. And the buffet's......mmmmmmm best in Vegas.

Easy to get in and out of, it's become my favorite Vegas Hotel.

Buffets are a killer for a fat guy. You start eating those buffet's for breakfast, lunch and dinner for 7 days in a row. You are so packed full when you leave you need a second seat belt extender for the airplane.

So if people don't patronize the host hotels that are willing to put on these events, then how does the hotel see the benefit of hosting the event? Events can't be moved to too many different places, because Place B will call Place A and ask about what type of business they got from said event.

It sucks that there are add on fees but patronizing the facility that holds the events helps show the vialbility and allows for more events in the future.

The casino sucks enough money out of the pool economy as it is. I never stay at the Horseshoe. It only takes a few minutes longer to drive in from town than it does to walk from the Horseshoe's hotel and I get free wifi free fridge & microwave, free breakfast and save about $50 a day! Besides I just hate to see a dime of my money going to the blood sucking casinos!I've been to every DCC held and want to keep the tradition going, but I'd sure rather see it done in a hotel anywhere than in a casino!
