Horseshoe internet fee at DCC

Since the DCC is only a short time away I thought someone might know the answer to this. Is there a charge for Internet access in the rooms? I know you have to pay to use the business center because of the tournament going on but I thought they might give those that paid over $1K up front for a room a little break.

Last year they charged 10 dollars a day for internet access to the room. I'm glad you brought this up as an ocwath should do. I forgot about the internet charge and I remember how upset it made me. Free wifi is practically a common denominator in most hotel chains now and for the casino to gouge folks for 10 a day to have internet usage in the comfort of their own rooms ( that they are paying 100 or more a night for ) is a complete joke. Surely, as much business as they get from Greg Sullivan and the DCC they could let folks have internet access in their hotel rooms.

Does anybody have any thoughts on this...I think you need to re-title this thread.

That is what they charged last year. $10.00 a day for internet service it's 2012 not 1999. The Hotel-Casino is so far out in the boondocks, cell phone service may be problem too. Just kiddin about the cell phone!

To top it off their internet is awfully slow. To avoid the daily charge I tried to use my cell phone as the "hot spot" but that was awfully slow too.

Free internet is a staple at hotels but not at Casino-Hotels. I was just at the MGM Grand in Vegas for the Mosconi Cup. When I checked in they told me I had to pay a $20 per day mandatory Resort Fee.

"So what does that get me?" I asked. "Internet and access to the pool".

"Hmm, but the pool is closed and I have my own internet access."

"Yeah, most do, but the fee is mandatory".

The problem seems to stem from the idea that folks who stay in hotels are business people. They expect internet access. Folks who go to Casinos are there to blow away money and the Casinos are more than willing to assist in this effort.

Which starts me off on the tangent of how much better run Las Vegas was when the mob ran it. But I shan't bore you with that.

Another reason I stay 8 miles up the road at the Hampton Inn. Free, fast WiFi included.

The business center does not charge to use the computers, you just need to have a players pass or a daily pass to get up stairs to where the business center is. I have never been charged, just takes your room key to get into the office. I believe they have 3 computers. Tom

So right...

I stayed at the RIO during the Mosconi Cup.....no resort fees! BUT, internet is 14.99 per day. They get you either way, you just can't escape it.

I have never stayed in a Casino-Hotel with free internet anywhere I have traveled.

There is free wireless in the hotel, just not up in the rooms.. I believe its everywhere else. You can sit in the lobby or in the hotel cafe and use it.. and there are chairs and tables around too..

In the convention center area, you have to have a room key and player's pass to get to the office center.

They used to offer Free wifi in the lobby and commone area.

Not anymore. They changed all that last year.

Resort fees

In Vegas, most places charge a 'resort fee'.
All caeser's properties do not.
Thr Rio will have no report fee when we are there in 2013.

The Rivera waives the resort fee if you register for the pool tournament - at least at our BCAPL nationals in 2012 (may 9-20).

I believe the Rio will offer free Internet in the tournament rooms and surrounding area.

You are correct about not being charged to use the hotels pc's. A players pass or daily pass is not free though, and rightfully so. This was talked about in another thread on how the tournament area is setup. The biz center being beyond the "gate" upstairs was making it difficult for non-pool related guests at the hotel to come and go freely to that room. This is one reason the internet should be offered in guest rooms at no extra cost.

I was told at the Riviera a few years ago, that the Wifi offered there, was provided

by a contractor. They had no control over the charges. Not sure about any of the others. Bally's had a machine to print your boarding passes for the flight back home, and it was also a contractor. Same goes for soda machines, and possibly some of the ATM's. I was lucky a couple years ago at DCC, and my room mate had a wireless setup with his cell, so we could run 3 laptops in the room for free.

The RIO rooms were much bigger-nicer than the MGM rooms at 1/4 the price. And the buffet's......mmmmmmm best in Vegas.

Easy to get in and out of, it's become my favorite Vegas Hotel.

I finally ate at the touted seafood buffet last year - very disappointing. Felt like I was eating in a Ryan's Steakhouse or Ponderosa. The place was filthy and the food was a waste. The crab is not sliced in half and they have no small forks -- lots of wasted food. There are 10 buffets minimum in Vegas better than this one.

wi fi

The cost for wi fi in your room is 10.95 a 24 hour day so you can actually bridge tow days. If you want to use wi fi at the hotel then its 24.95 a day. I have 3g and got it just for this tournament. I have sent several emails to their hotel people and they say giving us a 10 day discount is enough. I pointed out that any hotel that wanted to sell out for ten days during the winter would give us a discount AND have free internet, refrigerators, microwaves, but not this joint. Just another reason to hold the DERBY event in Kentucky.
