Derby City--got a small window--should I go?

daydreaming about pool

DCC usually takes place when I have a conflict with a convention I attend every year in January. This year I have an option to bail out early and fly into Louisville for a 2 day stay, late afternoon Jan 6th to early afternoon Jan 8th.

My question is this, is it worthwhile to go to the DCC that early? Is there alot of action right from the beginning or does most of the big games go down later on when the one pocket and nineball startup? I have never been to the DCC so I would appreciate it if any regulars to the DCC could give me some insight as to what I could expect first and second day of this event.

thanks!

Uwate,
Unless it is the Nymphomaniac Liquor Store Owner's Convention you'd be foolish to miss DCC. The first few days are the bank competition; but also usually there is a Ring game. Bob Jewett could weigh in on when the straight pool high run competition will be. There are money matches every day and night at DCC. The AZB room will be opening Friday afternoon/evening for small stakes challenge match-ups and socializing. I look forward to seeing you there (I think the NLSOC was in November).

Willie, that's funny sh*t even if its not the sort of thing I want to read right now since its unlikely I'll make the DCC :( Never one to say no though, Willie as unlikely as it seems right now what would be the minimum period I could go for if all I wanted to play in was the straight pool, 9 ball, and possibly a ring game?

Cheers

PS
Oh and what are the dates for the NLSOC and do they have a website? :D

TheHalfasgoodasTwo,
The 9-ball starts Wednesday A.M at 10 A.M. I believe (Central Standard Time). You could possibly be out by Wednesday night or Thursday morning if you are really anxious to get going (especially if you draw Efren both rounds - there IS a re-draw every round). The timing depends on number of entrants - the finals are usually Saturday afternoon (with usually only 8-12 players making it to Saturday). Good luck if you play.

P.S. - The NLSOC dates are closely guarded - if I told you I'd have to kill you (or at least charge you through the nose).

It's worth it, but you'll hate having to leave early.

The 10-ball ring game and that fabulous Efren vs. Joyner one-pocket match happened in the first couple of days.

I was thinking more of going late (eg missing 1 pocket and banks) rather than leaving early. This is the one tourny I haven't played in yet that I sooooooo want to! :(

Oh well can't go to everything I guess (Grr), roll on May (long extended pool & drinking jaunt begins again! :D )

It's sad when a player can not get to the DCC:( , but in your case I find it hard to sympathize. I mean with you throwing your whimsical globe trotting in our faces, so much. ;) j/k Make plans now, for next year, you won't be sorry.
