It’s been years since I’ve been on here!
Hello and happy new year AZer’s.

An opportunity has came up for me to knock attending the DCC off my bucket list! I’m super excited but I’m worried I have no clue what I’m doing and will miss something.

I read through the website and it seems I’ve already missed the opportunity to play or even get VIP seating at the tv table. So it looks like I’m stuck with general admission and wandering around.

I don’t need a room as I don’t live too far away now.

Any advice? Insight? Etc is greatly appreciated.

General admission is not bad at all. It will allow you to enjoy all the tournament rooms. The main room is in the ballroom next to the casino. The vendors are in the long hallway between the hotel and casino. There are also a couple tournament rooms upstairs, stairs right outside the ballroom. A couple action rooms also upstairs. Food choices in the food court aren't great but at least they are there. Enjoy your time there, it's a great event.

... or even get VIP seating at the tv table. ....
At times the TV crew asks random spectators to fill in the VIP seats. It looks better.

As for the food, it is limited but since you'll have a car, you can drive into New Albany. The choices there range from Whitecastle to upscale gastropubs. Louisville restaurants are about 30 minutes away.

Trying to figure out when/where a specific non-TV match is going to happen can be a challenge. I don't know if they are still using the scrolling schedule screens, or if they have info online now. I think DigitalPool might be involved for scoring.

Enjoy yourself! Be prepared to be on your feet a lot. If you see me there (in my superman trickshots jersey) say hi!

Be prepared to walk your ass off and WAAAAAAAAAAAAY overpriced crummy food. Eat before you go and keep some snacks in your car.

Except for the most featured matches, you will typically find an arena seat and, as Bob Jewett noted, when there is a small crowd for a match, Pat Fleming likes it when people move up to the VIP seats, with the understanding that in the unlikely event that the person who bought that seat shows up, you'll have to get up. Don't forget the upstairs bleacher seats that overlook the stream table, too. Even for some of the tastiest matches, you can find good seating up there.

Getting a seat for a really good matchup on an outer table can be very tough, so you'll likely end up watching some of those matches standing up unless you are one of the first few to show up to that table.

Outside of the steak house, the food isn't very good at the hotel, although the breakfast buffet in the hotel (not in the casino) is halfway decent. Still, expect to be using plastic utensils at most eating establishments, so if you want real utensils, bring your own. Coffee and soda are free in the area by the tournament room, so that might save you a little money, but the food is a bit overpriced.

Most of the action matches are upstairs, in either a) the primary action room just by the top of the escalator, b) Ray Hansen's one table action room, which tends to feature the best action matches of the week, but I think you may need to purchase a seat to watch in there, or c) after hours, in one of the upstairs rooms.

You'll have to learn to work the system to stay on top of which really good matches are coming up next in both the tournament rooms and the action rooms.

Enjoy!

Alex will be there. Be sure to pick up some wipes at his booth and lets us know how it works out.

If going to Louisville for anything keep in mind that the I-65 bridge is a toll bridge. You would probably be using the Sherman Minton bridge (I-64 east and west) but if you do be mindful of the interstate interchange in Louisville that connects I-64, I-65 and I-71. It's called Spaghetti Junction and can be confusing.

Another option for food is the town of Corydon, In. Corydon is approx. 16 miles from the casino.

Explore. Go upstairs and check out the action rooms and other tables. Walk around the casino. We found a small group of tables in an area just off of the casino floor.

The floor of the main playing area can get crowded. But it is really cool to look across the room and see a couple of Pro players warming up or playing a match.

Bring a cooler to keep in your car. Fruit, sandwiches, cokes, beer, cheese, crackers, etc. It may be the best food you get. There is an outdoor parking entrance that is the closest to the tournament. Some folks bring campers.

why not just order door dash from one of the better places. if the casino wont allow it meet the guy outside as you get instant notice when it arrives and can track it .

Food has gotten steadily worse every year in the casino. Never seen worse. Bringing a cooler is key. Like bringing your lunch to work....lol. I've never had a problem bringing in snacks in my bag. I'm a diabetic if they ask.
Keep in mind they have video surveillance on the upper deck of the hotel parking garage and enforce "bad actors". If your over 21 you can park in the garage.

Download the scrolling app to see match/table times. I entered through one pocket and I've been getting emails to update my Digital Pool App with photo etc. Pain in the but...

Xpool from Railyard will be streaming the main table this year.

Will the squak at bringing a cooler to your room?
No. Everybody does it. Its how I live with my dietary restrictions on the road. I stopped staying at the hotel 6 or 7 years ago. I stay at my nephews in Louisville now.

The breakfast isn't bad in the hotel, but the resturant in town is better and cheaper. Like someone said, when you enter the actual casino from the hotel they will search your pool case. Be extra careful with what's in your case.

cook in your room. eat crackers in your car. sorry, i just dont get it. not how i live. or want to.
If the food is bad and overpriced. Also, going to a better restaurant for 3 meals a day for 9 days is very inconvenient..... what's wrong with a little home cookin'?
