I was just curious as to roughly how many people go to the tournament for the whole 9 days, purely as a spectator?

There are a lot of people that go for the wkend or take a couple of days off of work and make it a long weekend. I'm taking a full week vacation from work and will be there the whole time as a spectator. InsidePOOL approached me last yr about working their booth since I was going to be there, so I did to help defray the costs but even if I didn't work the booth, I was still going to be there.

Anyone else take a full week vacation to just go hang out and spectate?

I am playing in the 9-ball banks division, just for the tickets to watch the rest of the events...and will be there the whole time, hanging out with my good friend, Willie Jopling.

I will be there for the whole thing, at least that is the plan. I am not having a booth there, just going to meet old friends and hopfully make some new ones. I also want to check out some cues from Cornerstone, Cue addicts...and some of the beautiful cases offered by Jack Justis.

me me me

I just go to play with my friends and watch the better players. I don't play well enough to enter the tournament. I will rent tables at 3am and knock them around for a while some nights. This is my vacation...dont want the pressure of not looking like a fool..lol. Last year I went for 9 days..this year 4 or 5. Still playing it by ear.

I wish i could!

I want to go really bad but I am just starting a new business and the timing is awful for me ! :(
So I will have to live vicariously through my many internet friends that will be there posting for us that can not go! :D

Timberly I have only been twice, both times for the last 2 days.

Usually there will be 200-300 spectators scattered about the room sweating the matches of their fave players,

The last time I went they left the tables up after the Sat. night final and I wandered into the room Sunday morning to find Gabriel Owen playing 10_ahead vs Kid Delishh and Mika and some kid naned Aaron playing scotch vs. Scott Frost and Phoebe Choy.

At that point most of the spectators were asleep upon the chairs but fortunately Sarah Rousey wandered in and kept me company for for a spell. :D

You will enjoy the show. Trust me.

The Whole Enchilada

Im playing the banks for the tickets and just hangin .I luv not sleepin 4 a week.

My plane from California lands @ 7 PM on the first Saturday. Staying for the entire event. I'm sure I'll be sleeping for the entire flight home.

I am playing the the Banks and then staying for the whole thing. Looking forward to the action.

I'll miss the first day, I think, but I'll be there for the rest of the week. That's the longest I've been there, so I think I'll be draggin a$$ by the end of it.

I'm in the one-pocket, but I might as well be considered a spectator.

I was there all 9 days last yr (this yr too) and I can assure you that you'll be draggin a$$. You know it'll totally be worth it... sleep is over-rated & can be had on the way home & the next week. :D

So if you play in the banks, you get free tickets for the rest of the tournament, the whole shebang, the works??

Yes. Up until this yr it was cheaper to play in the banks and have a pass for the rest of the week instead of paying for a weekly spectator pass. Greg changed it this yr... I think it's something like $15 more to play in the banks than it is to get a weekly pass.

Well, I checked out the DCC website, and it looks like playing in the banks comes to $105, while a pass is over $185... Hmmmm....

You're looking at the VIP ticket prices. Here's what Greg had to say about this on another forum...

This is the first year that you can't beat the gate at the DCC by buying into the bank tournament.......The entry fee for the banks is now $100 and the 9 day event pass is only $90.....Guess you can now save $10 unless you would like the extra spouse pass, so that might be considered.............There are several reasons for this change.......The fact that previously you could enter as a player cheaper than paying for the event pass definitely worked.........My would be gate became comfortable being a participant, if even only for a short while before resuming their role as a spectator.... They now could view matches and relate more to the players feelings.............This justification for playing started getting the numbers of players we wanted,,,but there were a few who forfited their matches with no intension of playing, which wasted time and caused delays...This wasn't what I wanted...I wanted the players to take their shot and consider it an honor to play a champion or better player.......However, this was not the only reason for the increased entry fee.....Raising the entrys $25 will make a nice increase in the total purse, especially with the number of players in each division....I don't know any other way to increase the payouts and keep the top players where they can justify participating in this tough format.....We've grown about as big as we can using every inch at the facility....I now need to try and make it better and attract a sponser!....I must try and keep the top players coming to entertain their fans and maintain the tradition the DCC has grown to be!......Greg/Diamond
