Derby City

That is unreal and double unreal if the DCC was going to pay their sanction fee which everyone said they would.

No more than 2 ladies can even make an extremely meager living in the WPBA and they deny you the right to make money in a non conflicting tournament??!! Not to mention that participation by the ladies would in my opinion help grow the sport as a whole.

Well that's too bad, what I don't understand is how Karen Corr and Julie Kelly have been able to participate in some of the recent Joss Tour events

I agree, I dont understand how they can limit a players income the way they do.Plus allow players to play in certain tournies and then not others.Doesnt make any sense to me.I could see if they were at the level where the ladies could make a living, but they arent quite their yet.Sorry about that Sarah, maybe Santa will bring them a change of mind.lol Merry Christmas

I wonder how this will affect the Amway Cup, what if it isn't a sanctioned WPBA event? With large prize money including $20,000 for first place I have a hard time seeing no WPBA players in the tournament next year.

Last year players such as Allison, Karen, Webb, Lee, and Ga Young Kim all participated and thats only the ones I know of. Let's assume those players go again next year and it's not sanctioned, will the WPBA kick that list of players off the tour, I wouldn't think so

I think it's bad enough that ladies aren't allowed to compete in the WPC or the US Open, now the WPBA is making it that much harder for them to compete in other tournaments. This is just my opinion but I think it's wrong for them to tell the players you can't compete in this tournament or that tournament.

I'm looking for a positive out of this whole situation and the only one I can think of is that it may bring some extra cash in for the WPBA, but at the same time it's taking away other possible money making opportunities from the players. So basically the only positive I can take out of this situation is completely nullified by one of the negatives, I just can't see this benefiting the WPBA or it's players in any way

Well, there are two sides to this. The WPBA is trying to stay unified and trying to get bigger sponsorship for the tour. That could be a good thing, but it is really hard on the players who are not in the top 3.

I see their point, but I also see that I would like to help support the game by playing in other tournaments. So far Derby City is the only tournament to be turned down for this year. The Joss tournaments are not big enough to be taken into consideration, just like the Viking tour tournaments. Amway Cup is sanctioned. That is a yearly event with a big payday. There is collaboration with the WPBA. I guess now we have to wait and see what the future brings.

Take care,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,

I sincerely wish that you will get invited to play in the Amway Cup next year. I am sure you will really impress the pool community in Asia with your unbelivable break and your awesome potting power.

Have a great holiday. All the best to you.

PS: Don't buy too many shoes... :p

Cheers,
Richard

Thanks Sarah, I'm glad to hear that the Amway cup is a sanctioned event. Hopefully the DCC will be sanctioned next year (2006) and you will be allowed to participate.

Hi Sarah,

At the request of a good friend, I have sent you a PM. Hopefully something mutually beneficial will come out of this.

Have a great day,
Mike

Word on the street is the WPBA objection to gambling (pool players gamble? ) and knowing that the DCC is a huge action event.

This makes even less sense.
The WPBA can stop their players from playing in the DCC tournaments, but that would not stop them from playing in private matches, on the side.

Hi everyone,

I'm not really sure of the reasoning as I said before. I am hoping that something can be resolved for next year. I understand that the DCC does not have the best reputation, but it is the biggest tournament in the world...in my opinion. If a woman could go there and place well that is a big accomplishment. Last year, everyone remembers Jeanette's performance in all three tournaments. She placed well in all three events and was somewhat in the running for the all around. I think she ended up 20 something in that competition. I didn't play in all three tournaments but I had a good showing in the 9ball, placing 20th. Granted not as many people remember that as they do Jeanette...but both of us were there and played well and spectators saw that. In my opinion, that is good exposure for women's pool...proving that we can play too.

Take care,
Sarah

Isn't there a way to petition that? Or for the fans to petition for the women to participate in the DCC tournaments? You'd think that if the fans want to see that, they'd be more considerate of them.

The WPBA used to have a message board on their site but they took it down. That would have been a good place to raise a stink.

I suppose if they got enough emails they may reconsider their stance.

Thanks Wally. That's a great idea. I only fear that our voices may not be heard. It only makes me wonder, how many emails would be enough? It's a tough call, but I think I'll have to do that. Would you be down for some of that action too?

Sarah,
I think you may underestimate your recognition factor among the true pool fans. I'm sure many of us remember that you were the highest finishing woman player in the 9-ball event. I think that there was DEFINITELY less excitement this year without the women competing.

I will admit that Jeanette's performance last year was very memorable. If I recall correctly she came within 1 ball of defeating Efren at one-pocket, and she also shot a 1.000 against Mika Immonen in 9-ball (if you don't count coming up dry on the break as an error, though she LOST the match). I'm looking forward to next year - and please take this as a compliment - I hope you get to play, but I hope I don't draw you in the first round!!!

Hi Willie,

First off, it was nice seeing you again. I apologize that we didn't get more time to talk.

Second, I don't think I am all that recognizable. I'm just a normal person. I really was upset that we didn't get to play. It is not just myself or Jeanette that were hurt from it...we just happened to be part of the few that decided to play last year. I think any woman playing in the tournament, pro or not, and doing well is a good thing.

I know alot of the spectators wanted to see Jeanette play again. Many people spoke to me about wanting to see her play and the disappointment that she wasn't allowed to play. It is a difficult thing to not have the most recognizable face and personality in the sport playing in the tournament. Hopefully next year will be different....time will tell.

Next time I am your way I will have to let you give me a straight pool lesson. :)

Take care,
Sarah

Good point Joe. You sure did pick me out easily. I was very suprised by that.

I hope you are doing well.

Take care,
Sarah
