Desert Ironwood

Have any of you cue makers built a cue with desert ironwood? I have seen pictures of two that had stunning figure and a deep luster. I think one was a Drexler, and I'm not sure about the other.

Is it hard to work with? Do you have any pros or cons on its use in a cue? Thanks.

There's a Kikel cue on Chalkers made from it too. Real nice looking.

I have used desert ironwood (that I "hand picked" when I lived in Arizona). Its very dense - very very heavy. It makes beautiful inlay material.

So you wouldn't recommend it for the main part of the forearm? How about if it was cored (not to open THAT can of worms) to make the weight right? Thanks, Jack!

Everyone I know of who has used it, cores it.

Knife makers buy em all.
I saw some at a knife show.
Not very appealing to cuemakers.
That wood is freakin' hard and dulls blades and cutters fast.

I just had a customer order an Exotic ZCC with this wood. He wants a Curly Maple handle and Desert Ironwood Burl forearm and butt sleeve. It's not a cheap ($) wood either.
