Design Contest - fast&loose designs

Another one:

"My other chalk is a Kamui!"

"My other chalk costs $30."

What good would a small print saying do on a chalk holder?

No one could read them unless you are going to shove them in peoples faces and say, "Look at my new chalk holder".

You're a Nit. Thats a good one. You can see it while chalking your cue. Whos a nit, the person chalking their cue or the person they are playing.

I think a design that is probably too simple is having:
Side 1:8 ball image
Side 2:9 ball image
Side 3:10 ball image
Side 4:crossed cues

Or
Side 1:SVB
Side 2:FATS
Side 3:EFREN
Side 4:EARL
or something similar in nature with names or nicknames that denotes different generations of the game we all love.

Single Dice or Die. The dots could be little billiard balls. One ball on the bottom opposite the chalk hole. Next side would be two dots made up of ths 2 & 3 ball..opposite of this is the 5 dots made up of the 4,5,6,7 & 8 ball, Next side would be the 3 dots, made up of the 9, 10 & 11 ball. Opposite of this is the final side for the 4 dots, made up of the 12, 13, 14 & 15 balls. I hope this is understandible. Thanks for the opportunity.! OR...just a plain die with dots.

Second submission...I also would like to see a Vulture (comical or serious), Purched, looking downward with his evil eyes, waiting to move in on the kill. A black widow would also look cool, it's body being black could be like an eight ball. A scorpion would also be a good aggressive image and a frontal view of a shark showing mouth open with sharp teeth. These could all be on one cube. Thanks again.

I'd like to see a "See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" representation on each of the first three sides, with the fourth side showing a magnifying glass in a circle with a line through it. If you can find a way to make a recognizable detective, that would work better, but I'm not that imaginative. On the fif h available side, I'd have it inscribed with either "You don't need weight, you need practice" or "I'm shooting pool. When I miss, you can shoot"

I received this sterling tiffany & company one as a gift a while back.

A matching rack was also available for $1700.

Of course, the chalk holder is pretty much useless since the design invites damage to nice ferrules.

Great to take your silver Tiffany chalker to dive bars, though, and use it to chalk up the house sticks.

best,
brian kc

My pet peeve is people placing the chalk face down on the rail a chalk holder like this would prevent that and could look cool in plastic or metal.

I am not proficient with Micro$ Paint but I think it conveys the idea.

That's awesome. I can't stand it either when the chalk is upside down.

Various colors indicate shading. Pretty much just a pool table motif, with the chalk inserted from the bottom, with either a blank bottom, hinged cover, or separate snap in insert of silver. As chalk wears, padding or anything else can be used to hold chalk to the top of the holder.

The rails on top hold the chalk in, with the cut out pockets allowing for the use of the corners of the chalk.

The blank felt areas can be used for engraving. On one side I showed where the pockets can be indicated with depressions, or it can be flat with the rest of the felt.

With a name like Fast N Loose you have got to do a Man's Ruin holder. I'm not sure the fidelity (pixel density) you can create but you've got 4 sides. Side A is a girl / silhouette, Side B is dice and cards, Side C is Pool balls in a rack, Side D is A bottle of alcohol. That is a fat cat design I would go for.

You could also go a traditional tats route but might be too Sailor Jerry - anchor, horse shoe, Mom in a heart type thing.

Or how about a Chinese Dragon wrapped around the chalk cube with an 8 ball or a 9 ball in it's mouth. Unique pool angle.

I stayed away from skulls with 8 ball eyes as too obvious but with a unique design of the skull it could work.

One last idea - not sure 4 frames is enough but it might be - side A object ball and a pocket, side B object ball closer, Side C object ball closer, Side D object ball falling into pocket. If you spin it you might be able to get an obviously crude animation out of it (ok so maybe after a few beers).

Sorry I don't have photo shop any more so I can't draw anything.
Craig

I agree, skulls are too obvious, but I kinda like the idea of a wicked skull which would be attached by a grey string to a spine which, obviously, is the "pocket part" but that idea goes beyond his request.

Side 1,a triangle with one big 8 ball filling the rack.Side 2, a diamond with one big 9 ball filling the rack. Side 3, Crossed Cues, Side 4, A Cue Ball or an Eye.

I tried to upload a pic on Tuesday but the post went to review because I do not have many posts. In case it isn't approved in time, I want to describe the holder, and ask that you visit my profile to see the pic that I made of my idea.

Basically a pool table motif, with thin rails and hollow pockets on top for access to more chalk. I shaded it different colors of gray to show how it might look in silver.

The chalk would be inserted from the bottom, with a swinging cover or snap in piece. Smaller chalks like Kamui could have filler placed behind it to hold it to the front, or, as your regular chalk gets worn down, you can trim it and do the same thing.

The sides allow for engraving of symbols and initials, or small inscriptions.

On one side of the holder in the pic I tried showing what it would look like with deeper impressions where the pocket holes are, or you can leave it flat like on the other side.

I guess I like classy looks to cues and chalk holders.

I'm glad to see something that doesn't have "flaming 8-balls" or "pool hustler death skulls' as a design theme!

Would the sides be open or solid? I think using rails to hold the chalk in at the wearing surface would be hard to do without adding hinges to the design. Maybe just using the rail motif on the remaining 5 sides?

Looks cool.

Thanks, as I said, I like it a bit more classy.

The sides would be solid to allow engraving, and to keep your fingers extra clean, and the chalk would be inserted from the bottom, with a snap in plug or hinged piece. That would allow you to keep pushing the chalk towards the top as it wears, with padding or such.

(everyone wears the chalk out evenly instead of digging a deep hole in the middle, right?)

Not a bad idea for the bottom up insert, but I think the top should be open instead.

As you suggested, I am not one to 'drill the chalk', and typically like to sweep across evenly. The rails in your design could get in the way of that. Make it top insert, chalk up - no problems with constricting the application process.

well, if you made it top open the sides could be more of a rectangle, and have six pockets. that would look more like a pool table. if the rails were thin enough on top they wouldn't get in the way, and the pockets would make the entire corner open. maybe have both options and let customers choose.
