Diamond 7ft or 9ft

Yes.

7 footer looks like a Fisher Price kids table after practicing on a 9. You'll feel pretty confident stepping onto a 7 after practicing on a 9.

Yet, i'm now leaning towards the 9 foot. Plus, if family and friends that come by that are not pool players, I know I can't lose on a 9 footer :)

That's why I'm in a quandary. What if I decide not play 9 foot anymore, does it still make sense to practice on the 9 foot to stay sharp on the 7 foot versus practice on the 7 foot to play on the 7 foot ?

Also from my perspective, if you only "compete" primarily on 7 foot tables, I don't think you would be making a mistake of getting a 7 foot diamond table.

And a 9-footer holds a lot more laundry.
;)

No worries. Laundry room is on first floor :) The basement is off limits. My son has a video gaming room, I have a work out room, pool room, poker room and a room full of baseball memorabilia . I must have forgot about her when I built it out the basement, I was sure it was in the plans when I started... oh well ;)

In my mind it depends on what you play on the most. Me, I play one hole a lot, so it's a 9 footer for sure. If I played rotation games and when I wernt out, and I played on the smaller tables, it would probably opt for the 7 footer.

The biggest thing I notice as you go up in sizes is that fewer and fewer players have the stroke to dominate a larger table...

I think it's about the power and precision demands... I have always practiced on 9ft equipment.. Maybe if I had a 10ft to practice on I'd develop the balance needed to dominate the 9ft.. Wishful thinking at least...

Currently there are very few players with the firepower to force the 10ft Bigfoot table to their will and none of them can do it all the time... drop down to the diamond 9ft and you add another 20 players in the pro ranks who can force their will on it... Move over to a 9ft gold crown and you'll add more players who can over power it unless it's been tricked up or gaffed....

The only time I would ever encourage a player to buy a smaller table is when they don't have the room to go bigger LOL

The common answer seems to be to get a 9 footer.. i'd have to agree if you have the space for it.

What do you do for a living?

Seems like a lot of rooms dedicated to hobbies. :D

Get a 6' x 12'.....

...and then call your friend Earl and borrow a cue from him ;)

Hey if you get a 9' Diamond you'd better turn one of those rooms into a guest room...I require a tempurpedic pillow buddy boy.

Maybe we can get a deal if we buy two. you still looking ??

As others have pointed out, you probably aren't the only person that has ever had to decide between table sizes when you have room for either.

I wonder if Diamond would ever consider creating a table that can convert between 7' or 9' , or if that's even possible.

While I don't know the answer to your last sentence, I do know that on 9 foot tables, you can order tops/new rails in which you can have different sized pockets from your original order. I'm probably not expressing myself very clearly but here is another way. Buffalo Billiards has ordered a new set of tops and rails for their 9 foot tables and the rails are extended so that the pockets narrow to 4 1/4".

Yikes, that's a tad tight :) But maybe I got the nine with 7 foot pocket dimensions :)

I should have said, "reduced" to 4 1/4". Not that tight, especially for one pocket.

JoeyA

Yeah, I've heard a lot of folks say good to tighten up the pockets a tad for your home table... good food for thought :)

Went to diamond website for pocket dimensions, and didn't see it.

Anyone know the standard dimensions for the 7 and 9 foot Pro-Am ??

I got a 7' proam last october and I love it. I have no issues adjusting to bigger tables, though if I had the room I would go 9'. The pocket size is the same for procut which is 4 1/2". However you will have a bigger pocket throat on the 9' table.
