New to the forum. I am new to the forum although have been viewing for sometime. I'm about to get a Diamond table and given the size of the room, a 9 foot is a little big and requires a smaller (48" to 52") cue. Even though I can deal with the shorter cue and would much rather play on a 9 foot, I am considering an 8 footer. Has anyone played on a diamond pro am or proffessional 8 foot table. If so any comments on your thoughts on how it played would be appreciated. Just for info I am replacing another pool table with the diamond and it is 9 foot, just a little cramped around the sides along the long rail.

I've played on Diamond Pro-Am 8-footers at Beezer's in Russellville, AR.
Amazing tables. Seriously. They play tough, but fair. I know there are some diehard Brunswick fans who gripe about Diamond cushions, but for whatever reason, my banking skills step up a couple of notches on Diamond tables. (I can't remember if they say Diamonds play a lil shorter or longer on banks that Brunswick). I LOVE banking on them.
I don't think you can go wrong with a Pro-Am. Just get a good, authorized mechanic to install it for you and enjoy the fruits of their labor.

the bar i play at has 12 8ft diamond pro's. good tables. if you order it new they do not come from the factory with artemis. sometimes i do feel like the table plays funny but i will chalk that up to the people who service them. i like the tables and are a good subsitute if no room for a 9ft table.
I played on an older vinatge Diamond Pro 8 footer at a private home in Las Cruces, NM and thought it was the nuts...

We used to play pea pool and partners pool on it and it was definitely a table that wouldn't stand for any lapses in concentration...

Thanks to all for the replies. That is a good point about the artemis cushions. That was going to be a question to diamond the next time I speak with them. I heard that the artemis can be installed on the 8 footer as an upgrade option. The other challenge will be finding a table mechanic in Alaska that is familiar with diamonds.

The dimensions in my room would have put me a little tight on the side cushions so I did a 8 ft. Bad Decision. I wish now I had put in a 9ft. Having no room happens very little I'm told. Cue has to be 90 degrees to rail. If it is on the rail all you need to do is jack up on the shot a little. This will give you several extra inches. Try it once.

I am going to offer a differing opinion from most here.
First, I agree the 8 foot diamond table is an exceptional table and if you plan on never buying a 9 foot table then I believe that is your best option.
However, if it was me, I would not spend that kind of money on a 8 foot table unless you can find a great deal. I would always hope that i would upgrade my house to accommodate a 9 foot table, at which point I would definitiely by a 9 foot diamond.
I just can't see paying $5K+ for an 8 foot table when I am hoping that within 5 - 10 years I would have room for a 9 foot table. In this case I would buy a cheaper 8 foot table and spring for the 9 foot Diamond when I could fit it in the space.

The Diamond 8ft ProAm plays just like the 9ft ProAm plays, there's really very little difference between the two tables other than the playing surface. The 8ft has a 45"x90" playing surface, so it's only a little smaller.

If your nine footer requires a 48-52 inch cue it's not a little cramped, it's a lot cramped. A pro 8 is only 4 inches narrower. It's also going to be a lot cramped based on what you're saying. I say get a cheap seven footer until you have an adequate sized room. Then buy the big daddy of your dreams. I moved an entire interior wall in my house to accomodate a nine footer. It was a weekend project. And it was worth it.

Again thanks for the replies and opinions. I do have some renovation ideas that i may be able to incorporate into the room to increase the playing size. The room is 13'2" wide by 19 feet long. The only option is to make the side windows extruded bay style window, the style that extends beyond the exterior of the wall. I could do this on both sides, which then would accomodate a 9 foot table pretty well.
