Diamond bar box questions

I'm off to Lincoln City to compete at the BCA event. We are playing on seven foot diamonds. Where are some good break locations to start from to make a ball and get a good spread for a run out?

Thanks.

In my experience I break from the corner of the box right around the headstring on either side and adjust from there. A medium speed break seems to work better for me instead of slamming them. When I break them too hard it seems that they go to the rail and come back to the center and cluster. Also watch those big side pockets if you use draw on your break.

I don't know if this is 8 ball or 9 ball. For 8 ball, I always break 2nd ball in with the cb as close to the rail while still having my hand on the table and not the rail(usually a few inches away). For 9 ball, I use greyghost's break. Draw a line from 1/4 away from the middle and 1st diamond on the short rail through the 1 ball and place your cb on it. I usually hit with about 70% power with a little draw bringing both the cb and 1 ball down table. If I didn't explain that well enough look on YouTube for greyghost's break on forcefolllow's channel. Good luck at the event.

There are a ton of Diamond bar tables around here, and one thing I agree with here is about 75% on the break if it's 9-ball. Balls seem to go pretty well around that break speed.

Oh... That's a pretty good youtube video...

Thanks for the compliment on the video and thanks for the advice guys. The event is eight ball but I will be playing nine ball as well on the side so this is great advice.

I've started using this break for 8 ball on all bar boxes. I really like the results. Good luck.

I played a tourney Friday on Diamond BB's. I started out breaking the head ball. I was getting a really good spread and squatting the CB, but I was only making a ball like 30% of the time.

I started using a 2nd ball break and I made a ball everytime but one. I don't like where the CB ends up with a second ball break (I would prefer it be higher on the table), but making a ball everytime is more important. It's not like the CB was in a bad position, I just feel weird with it down by the foot spot.

IMO it all depends on how well you are striking the cue ball. Off center for me is usually disastrous.

My opinion would be to make sure you have a tight rack and hit the cue ball straight and hard no matter where you put it on the headstring.

Good luck in the tourney!

You should watch the other breakers and see where the greatest success is coming from.

The side rail area, not necessarily on the side rail is probably the most popular place to break from but during the tournament I and others have shifted gears and started breaking from the middle of the table with good success as well.

I'm not sure what causes the changes except humidity, dirt etc but when something doesn't work, SHIFT GEARS and go to something else.

All that being said, control the cue ball and you will be far better off than if you made three balls on the break and one of them being the cue ball.

I've got a bar table tournament coming up this weekend and the best bar table player in America will be there so it should be a good one.

Oh yeah, if it's opponent racks, you might want to check the rack even if it is only to see how well he racks.

Bar Box ??

2nd ball break in 8-ball is the only way to go! Yes, it usually does leave the cueball near the foot rail (nearest to the rack), but since the rack was struck with about 70% power, many of the object balls stay near the foot rail and it's easier to run out making a lot of small shots, (in close).
I.M.O.

Thanks guys. Lots of good advice here. It is rack your own eight ball. Eight ball doesn't count on the break.

I'm playing in Little Rock this weekend at Krome's Billiards, Will be Diamond tables, never have hit the first ball on one, so I was really glad Luxury ask the Thread question, and paid close attention all that posted, thanks everyone!

Good luck to you and Luxury in the tournament this weekend and any other AZBer that playing in a tournament this weekend.

Do you put low outside English on the second ball break?

dont know which side of table you break from but im right handed and break from the left side and use low right english. as other posters said it usually leaves cue ball down by bottom rail but i usually make 1 or 2 balls and usually have options at 1 or 2 balls in either bottom corner pocket.

never played on them either until last weekend at my regionals. dont know what you usually olay on but you will have to adjust to fast cloth and hard rails. i called those rails springs because the balls bounced off those rails like they were springs. good luck to both of you

Practicing on one now. I bet I could convince someone that the ball leaves the rail faster than it came in without English.

I dont know why Im going to help you (again), when was the last time you taught me anything....lol...And to top it off you post your ? on here instead of just calling on your 2 hour drive.... thats cool...

But here you go anyway...for 8 ball
2nd ball break worthless unless you are trying to shit in the 8, and more bad then good can happen, ball off the table, all the balls move to one side of the table....no good. I go with 1 foot up 1 foot out from left corner pocket. lets me bridge on the rail, break still has alittle cut angle but i can hit um at warp and have no fear of leaving the yard because its just a touch straighter... Crush um and run out like your ass is on fire...

9 ball...
Same spot with the CB, just play with the speed. But Id start out smashing them if their not finding holes id be suprised..

And one last thing.... 7 fters.... If your cue tip isnt finishing around the spot your breaking like a sissy...

p.s. come back with the cash or dont come back....hahahaha..

Play good and leave the luck out of it....

Just put straight draw.........

Do you put low outside English on the second ball break?

It's more important that you hit that second ball square than using that English. The English will make more difficult to hit it square when trying to hit it hard.

If you hit it right the cue ball should come off the side rail and go back into the balls.

When shooting at that second ball aim it as if you are shooting a difficult shot. Hit it square and you should like the results.

Good Luck.
