I am getting ready to purchase a Diamond table and I can't decide wether to go with a tourn. used model or a new one. I want one that is in flawless condition but I am guessing that the tourn used tables are probrably flawless except for slightly used cloth.

Am I right?

Has anybody ever bought a tournament used table that showed a little wear and tear?

Thanks,

I bought a tournament used one a few weeks ago but won't be delivered until after the DCC. I'm curious to hear what others have to say.

Tourn used would be fine IMO. Plus you have a good story to go along with it.

I'm watching the live stream on the 10 foot table, looks like they take pretty good care of the tables, a match just ended and a guy is wiping the cloth and rails down with a rag.

They are as good as new ones...maybe minimal cloth wear but the pro ams are built like an anvil because of the diamond wood and commercial construction...IMO

I purchased a tournament used ProAm in summer 2006. The cloth had slight wear and there were a couple of small scratches in the Diamondwood from rubbing against something in transportation.

When I first bought the table the scratches really bothered me. Any more I had forgotten about them untill I read your post.

To me $500 less for slightly used cloth and a few scratches is worth it in the long run. I would buy a tourny used table again. Just be aware there may be small blemishes.

I had a tournament pro am installed in November of 2012. The cloth had some wear in the break area from the 9 ball play and one small chip on one rail that the installers noted in thier delivery report with a promise to repair it when I do the next recover. I'm very pleased with the table and it plays great but in all honesty, having one with green felt rather than the tournament blue would have made a difference for me. Either way, the used table is a bit cheaper and unless you are a real stickler for perfection it looks like brand new, plays great and I am extremely pleased with mine and I'm sure you will be too.

Yes, I believe you are correct. I purchased a new Pro-Am and I am extremely happy with it; however, I believe I would have been just as happy with a tournament used table. I would have bought new cloth with a tournament used table anyway though.

I bought a table that was used at Turning Stone XVI. I've had for about a year and a half. The cloth was worn from one week's play and had some "breaking lines" (interesting because Turning Stone requires breaking from the box). Rails and all wood is perfect. It has the extra stickers on the side from the tournament (Simonis/Predator/Diamond, etc.) I personally like that it was used by the pros and don't mind missing the cloth "break in period". I went to the factory to pick my table out since I was going to be in the area anyway. When I was there they had about 20 "tournament used" table on hand and I was able to negotiate a slight discount from the normal "tournament used" price. I would definitely do it again.....

Re:

Also looking at buying a Diamond and spoke to their sales department for about 45 minutes last week - discount for tournament used table is only the cloth - my price quote only $300 less - over the course of the table's use (my whole lifetime+) that's very little discount - I would pay for new, but I care little about the pro "story" aspect - some like that which is cool, too.

I would go new. The reason being its only a few hundred in savings, and I prefer the aesthetics of the Professional model over the Pro/Am model. Going new also allows any color and wood customization.

If you get a used table from a prior owner you will have a much better deal. The tables they use for tournaments are not really "used" much. A table from an owner that has to sell it or is a few years old would be a lot cheaper.

I was disappointed with the Diamond company.
I contacted them through their website http://www.diamondbilliards.com/
a few weeks ago inquiring about prices for the pro am and professional tables. They never got back to me and I wound up buying a GC3 in great condition. Are they so busy that they cannot return price requests?

I contacted then about a year ago, they got back to me a few days later. They've been responsive to my questions. Maybe your first email got skimmed over by accident?

They send out free wood samples too.

Ive helped take the tables down at the US Open on the morning of the last day. The tables are still in awesome condition... cloth as well.

I think you are right. I just contacted them again and this time I got an auto reply saying they would be in touch shortly. Maybe it's time for a Diamond...

If you contacted them anywhere around Christmas, Diamond was closed from 12/23 to 1/2 for Christmas vacation:cool:

Hi Glen
Which table to you prefer the professional or the one piece slate pro am?

You can get the Professional with the one piece slate as well. I actually like both of the tables the same, but the ProAm is much easier and faster to set up if there's no stairs involved.
