I need a new table at my house cant fit a 9 footer was looking at the 7 foot pro am but in looking around now I am wondering if I should go with a Diamond Smart table instead. Honestly I dont see a lot of differences other then the coin box and the separation of the cue ball. From their site they say it is the only table that uses a normal cue ball. So I am wondering if I could use a high end ball set and maybe a pro cup cue (Measels). I can imagine the return may be either louder or a bit slower then on the pro-am but it is not a race for me. The price of the smart table seems significantly cheaper used then the pro-am. Looking for advise or feedback.

Imo, if you're looking at a diamond box, i'd go with a coin op as they're easier to flip if you need to move. They may be a little more in most cases, but they'll hold their value better.

What about an 8'....I'm in the same boat..would love a 9 but not willing to feel cramped. Back to your question though how much cheaper is the smart vs regular proam

The coin op (Smart) diamond barbox is actually significantly less expensive then the Pro-Am as a used table. I am only seeing a few big differences in the tables honestly. The videos online for flipping them are the same for both models the only difference is with the smart table you need to make sure the coin mechanism is facing up.

The smart table is also available in 7,8,9 foot lengths as well. Most common size I have seen is 7 foot though.

I think they meant "flip" as in sell...

They are slightly heavier than the Pro-Am and the ball return does take three times as long to come down..

Besides the coin mechanism, they are the same table.

I think either table is fine as long as you get a good price..The coin mechanism and return does add a small level of complexity to the whole scenario which you may or may not want to deal with as a home user.

If you're buying a coin-op table, and want to use a regular cue ball then all you need to do is remove the ball dump door panel. In bars where APA league action takes place, the bartender may accommodate the players who want to use a regular cue ball, and not have to deal with the coin-op mechanism.

I've got a 7 ft. RED label smart table, pro cut pockets, all you do is turn the key (leave it in that position} and all the balls come down to the return box. I don't even have the coin operator in. The balls come down fast, imho.
I had the pockets changed from black leather to natural leather, because the black leather leaves black marks on the balls. I got them directly from the company for that makes the pockets for diamond.
I use Brunswick centenials or the good Aramith balls (don't remember the name) on both my tables. The cb returns the same as all the other balls.
I've got Simonis 860HR on it.
I'm in Northern Illinois, so I'm pretty far from you.
I might be interested in selling it.

The Diamond coin op is different.. it recognizes any cue ball that you use..

For home use though, I'd disable the coin mechanism all together and just put it on free play.

I have a pro-am 9 ft, It only sorts the Aramith red circle cue ball, other cue balls return to the ball box. They said it would sort the Cyclop cue ball also, mine does not... Diamond said you can adjust the sensor so it will sort the cyclop but I have not tried it.

I don't know where you're getting your prices from, but the 7ft smart table is more tournament used than a new 7ft pro am. The 7ft smart table tournament used is still up in the 4k+' range
