Diamond system

Has anyone found a system to work with the diamonds that makes sense to you? I have tried a couple of times to understand the DS clearly. Can anyone help and make the use of the diamonds a little easier?

I know a few people who I play with have the system down fairly well. As for myself I never could fully understand it. I found the best way for me to learn was to actually to get on the table and kick the cue ball around. Pay attention to how it rolls, where it rolls, where I started from etc.. I'm pretty accurate at pocketing banks, making kicks etc. now. That's not saying the diamond system doesn't help though.

James, I agree. That post is hands down, the best post on kicking systems on AZB. The original poster KNOWS it inside and out.

The most important thing to remember about any diamond system is that you need to learn how to adjust. Some shots i.e. starting from the corner in the 3 rail system, need little if any adjustment. As you move down table, the adjustment becomes bigger and bigger.

Learning the systems are only 3/4 of the equation. learning to adjust is the missing 25%.

Once you find the line from the corner pocket, try adjusting with a parallel line for every thing above that line (to the left in the diagram that was shown) and half the distance for everything below it (coming from the short rail). This way, you don't need to fool with numbers. You have to learn the tracks to hit balls on and off the rails.

There are many, many diamond systems, as is pointed out in the Kicking Academy series. I think a good way to start is with the one-cushion systems, such as kicking off a side cushion to hit a ball. Have you seen a system for doing that? Did it work for you?

(Lots of people mean the "corner-5" system when they just say "diamond system" but the corner-5 system is complicated to learn compared to some of the other systems, and you should probably hold off on it until you are comfortable with the simpler ones. The corner-5 is the system where the "cue ball" number is 5 when it is coming from a corner pocket and going three cushions around the table.)
