For the life of me, I cannot play a lick on Diamond tables.

Played a weekly event last night and it was not pretty.

The tables were the red emblem ones, are they not the new cushion design (profile)? Shooting the 3railer from corner had CB arriving more than a full dot short, and to make cb in the hole, I had to go as deep into the corner on rail 1 as possible.

Additionally, speed off the rail still seems illogical. In fact, shooting straight into side rail sees the CB go 7 rails. 7

Good thing they put 6 pockets on 'em, or I'd be way worse.

I did manage to squeek out a 2pk...:embarrassed2:
 
If I had a 2-pack, I'd be celebrating with a nice champagne! I'm on my way now to give Earl a little spanking in Richmond....

No, the red emblem is on the older tables. Some of those have had their rails/subrails recalibrated to match the newer blue-emblem tables, but it sounds like the tables you played on have not been recalibrated.
 
Hey Bettle is Earl and some other big names playing in the APT warm-up tourney???

Always have trouble keeping red/ blue straight.

Like which one is the good Chimay!
 
I don't know if I've played on any of the newer diamond smart tables. The older ones give diamond a bad name. It's a guessing game as to how far the cueball is going to go when it hits a rail. You'd think it's going to go 1 foot and all of a sudden it gets that super bounce and it goes 6 feet further than you'd expect. The worst is when you're playing a tournament and they all bounce differently. It makes it impossible to figure out speed control when playing position off a rail.

Maybe I just need to play without using the rails. At least on a valley you know it's going to have somewhat slow rails.
 
You can tell if a Red Label or Bar box has been calibrated if you inspect the top of the cushion and rail.

Non-Calibrated will have the cushion edge flush to the top of the rail run close to parallel and then it will nose down to the point... Calibrated the cushion edge will be slightly recessed rise a little to the top of the cushion and then nose over to the point.....

The top of the cushion is an Arc... Calibrated the highest part of the cushion is the center of the arc... Non-calibrated the arc is rotated so the edge where it attaches to the rail is close to the same height as the center of the arc........

Hopefully one of the 2 descriptions will give you a visual of what to look for...
 
I like how diamonds play. It took a while to get used to but most of the tables I played on have played pretty true. I've never run into a table with bad cuts either so you somewhat have to hit it pretty good.

Table cushions should influence the speed of the table such that with placement of a ball on the head spot, shooting through the foot spot, using center ball english, with a level cue and firm stroke, the ball must travel a minimum of 4 to 4 ½ lengths of the table without jumping.
