Diamond vs Gold Crown

I've only played on one diamond and it had tighter pockets than the gold crowns I've played on. I prefer the diamond but IMO most people who go to a pool room prefer the gold crowns because of the loose pockets.

Good point. Tight pockets are not always the way to go, depends on the audience you are going after. If you are going for "players" then pro cut pockets. If you are going after a broader market (teenagers, people on dates, the bar crowd) maybe looser pockets are a better way to go.


No matter the pocket size, I would go Diamond.

I prefer Brunswicks. Diamond tables play just as well, but I don't think the table is much of a big deal anyway. And pocket size should not be not part of the debait here.

It seems that most people when referring to Diamond tables always point out that they have tight pockets, as it seems to me, the masses are unaware that Diamond also makes easy pockets available on the same tables. The tournament used 9ft Smart tables with pro pockets can before actual delivery...be converted to easy pockets...or as Greg would like to refer to...billiards cut pockets.

I like both tables. One negative feature, IMHO, about the Gold Crowns, is the rubber pocket liners do rub on the cue.

The Diamond pockets require good maintenance so the leather doesn't crack.

Both play well, but they do play different.

I do like playing on the Diamond 7 foot tables, it's more like pool than a big mouthed Valley.... Just MHO.

Yeah, I hate that black pocket plastic-stuff on the Brunswicks, Diamond has those recessed pockets all figured out. I think the Diamond rails are more lively, too.

Oh, and 9 footers are the only way to go...

I much prefer Diamonds. I doubt the "date" crowd will know the difference but the "players" will know and will come to you because of the Diamonds. Just having them will heighten your reputation.

"Hey... didja hear? New room opened... and they got DIAMOND 9ft tables!!!
