The number one player and the best player is in town, NY.

please let us know 4 how long is he staying ? & if he is willing to give an instructional clinic?

Best kept secret in USA Billiards!

Gilbert; This might be the best kept secret in the USA billiard. The number one player in the world came to the US under the radar, why so? Sure would of been wonderful to see him play up close again and, learn!
Oh well, maybe next time.

I guess he decided to get to Korea via the US. If anyone talks to him please find out whether he is planning any stops on the west coast.

Hi all,

I spoke to Dick last Thursday. He was giving private lessons to Jim Shovak.
I'm sorry but I did not ask him his itenerary.

We are working on a special promotion between Europe and Americas.

I do find it somewhat ironic that we were setting up clinics last year during a USBA tournament with Dick Jaspers and many USBA members or regular posters were less than enthusiastic or AWOL.

Ya gotta love it!

Yup, that's the one Gilbert. By the way...you signed up to take his clinic.

Thanks

I brought Dick to Medford about 5 years ago, to give me and three other players lessons for a week. Dick stayed with me. He is a most interesting fellow. The clinic was challenging given his approach to the game. I recommend him only to near 1.0 players as he uses very few systems, focusing strongly on shot selection, precise hit and consistent spin.

jim brought jaspers to "house of lords", a billiard parlor on long island, on sat. evening and they played for awhile. on sun. at 5:30 p.m. jaspers and jim arrived at "carom cafe" in flushing and they played on table six, which streams live. in attendance were hugo patino, miguel torres, sonny cho and room owner, michael kang. dick had an 11:00 p.m. flight. his last turn at the table was a run of 10. at the end of aug. there is world cup in suwon, korea.

The last match, he beat me 20-0. I dont know how many innings, but it wasn't very many. I should tell Dick that he should refund my money since that may be the biggest drubbing I have ever taken! (just kidding, of course)

I was there. They played two 25 point "games" (match/lessons). The front desk "paused" the table time so patrons could spectate. The first game, Jaspers seemed to struggle with the table (he was tired after a long week). Jim made about 10 points or so.

On the second game, he didn't run 10 out, but Jaspers was in full form - making several long runs. When the score was 20-0, he conceded a close cross-table point (that definitely scored) to stop a big run of about 10... Jim continued shooting, so my guess is that they resumed play. I watched Jaspers run 4 and out to make the final bead count 25-0 before literally rushing off to the airport.

BTW, getting blanked by a world champion of Jasper's caliber is nothing to be ashamed of. I don't think Jim had 5 innings in that last match.

Playing "even" against a top 5 world player, it can extremely difficult to maintain composure and play your game while they are showering you with 10+'s (especially in tournament or exhibition). Sang Lee used to routinely drub good house players keeping them in the low-single-digits as he rocketed to 70 or 80 points. I watched SL obliterate a good local .700 player (whose identity I will protect) 80-0 once in Sang's old room in Elmhurst. Now THAT can be embarrassing. The poor fella's face turned so beet-red that the Latino patrons started calling him "tomatico" (little tomato?)... lol Sang's famous 50-3 in 4,3 innings wasn't because his opponent (Mike Lee) played badly. Mike made 3 points in 3 innings (1.000 avg), but Sang ran back-to-back 19, 11, 9, 11 and out. Ouch.

It was a pleasure to watch Jaspers adjust so quickly and then finish the practice session shooting so well. Big thanks to Jim Shovak for sacrificing his money and pride to bring him to NY (Carom Cafe) for us. Saved all of us billiard lovers in NY an airfare to Europe. :)

Ira Lee ... Did anyone make a video of this Dick Jaspers v Jim Shovak... that might end up on youtube (iralee3)??

BilliardSHOT , would have been NICER that The usba secretary Share some of the information that he learned from Jaspers...........LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL:rolleyes:

Hey Ira, Gilbert, and Bob,

Shovak had videoed almost all of the practice sessions. Whether he will expose any of them on You Tube is a question for he.

Rumor Have it from someone own mouth ... He (Jim Shovak) was develop some type of 3cushion billiards video/tape. But will its be slow as molasse, before its come out???????

It's not my business to interfere with Jim's training with Japsers, by end of the day it's his money and his instructional's training,

I have been watching Jaspers since 1986, and to watch him play with Jim, means nothing to me .

I m sure That Dick won't let Jim share the Videos with NOBODY!

I was kidding Jim, you did the right thing , We HAVE NO INSTRUCTORS WILLING to help the game in the United states,
I support you Jim and I m sure that your game will get better.

CHEERS.

Didn't Sang Lee once beat Billy Incardona something like 50-6? I don't know what Incardona's 3C avg is exactly but he still must have been like "what the hell?.."
