Question : I'm in Europe; and I wanna throw a par-tayyy for 2000 of my friends w/o getting harrassed or picked-up by the poh-leece. Whadda I do ?? :grin: :p :D

Personally, If I wuddn't gettin' sick stoned or slob drunk,....... I could care less what was goin' on down there. (Is that DARTS they playing ? )

Even the escort girls were bored out of their minds and blowing kisses to the camera.

PS : NASCAR is out b/c its in Europe ! :wave3:
 
Heck. Give it a shot! Find out the events and give it a try. A dart board is pretty easy to install in any home. Heck, it may be pretty fun.

I will always shoot pool, but you peaked my interest.
 
What kind of outside spectator would want to go to a tournament and get *****ed out by earl because he thinks they're idiots for clapping? The matchroom events have good crowds, albeit a little rowdy for pool, but that is what you need to build excitement. Certain concessions will have to be made by pros in order to accommodate crowds and some modicum of professionalism will have to be used by all. I also agree that a unified body or several bodies working in concert is needed before anything big could happen. Could you imagine Barry Berman walking into corporate boardrooms with all his professionalism and intelligently planned out speeches and actually leave with a check. I just don't see that happening.
 
Its funny how people are quick to slam poker and darts yet love pool. They're all drinking social games at the heart of them. Ask the worlds population who Phil Taylor, Phil Ivey and SVB are...i wonder who would be least known? My monies on Shane. Ask them which of the 3 games they thought was more corrupt and had the most shady characters...pool would be the choice of the majority. Ask what would be the least favorite one to do for a living...pool would take a battering on this one.

Pool can learn a lot from darts and poker.

Darts lost my interest when they got rid of the steel tip darts. Never understood that. Just wasnt the same after that.

No matter what anyone can say about it, pool is THE HARDEST sport to master. It take years of dedication to get part way there. I agree that watching pool is sometimes as exciting as watching paint dry. That's why I love the Mosconi Cup. The crowd is allowed to have a good time. The events in England seem to be the best. They really get into it there.

Pool is difficult to understand and appreciate by even people who play the game. So it has a limited audience.
 
For anyone that is interested, the next round of the 2014 World Championship of Darts airs at 4pm.
 
To add insult to injury as far as pool not airing on U.S. television; the World Championship of Ping Pong airs at 5pm after the World Championship of Darts.

I agree with you Johnny. It's not the game but the lack of organization that's an issue. It's hard to sell a product when you don't really have a product. What pool needs in the US is a our own Barry Hearn.

Ping pong:) Now that's a sport;) to everyone who thinks I was a little crazy on my previous post,,,,, relax!! I could care less what anybody does with there own time! Is it crazy for me to think that darts makes more money than pool?? Sure I guess, but I'm sure a dart player would say there should be more money in darts because of the extreme difficulty there is throwing darts!(shooting darts??)

Either way, it just means that darts has a better structure than pool I guess! I work way too much to be worried about who makes more money:)
 
ok, perhaps I was a little too harsh on Darts and the Euro's :o

Of the 3,... (Darts, Ping-pong, & pool); it is obvious that pool is the harder to learn and be proficient. Perhaps that is why there are fewer that follow pool. I think Golf overshadows pool in many aspects in the USA.

Getting back to poker, perhaps it is the drama that comes with poker that draws ppl to watch . I know that's the ONLY reason I'll watch it for a few minutes. :rolleyes:

Darts is like watching paint dry, or maple syrup drip, but the people who throw Dareet Best in the UK are paid very nice.

It is about what the Bean Counter know that you do not, people who watch Darts & Poker have more expendabvle income to blow, than those who watch or play pool.

It is all about return on investment. Do you think General Mill, or some other company Sponsor a NASCAR Tram because it is fun... NOT.

It is because NASCAR Fans have extra income to spend on their products.

I agree. Lack of solid structure. But even Nascar fans have been branded as redneck, trailer park trash, with one tooth to share between all of them. Yet they are still targeted for advertising. Pool could only be so lucky.

I saw a dart tournament on tv once, the guy was sipping a pint between throws, I didn't mean it at the bar, CLOWN!
and I have no interest throwing a dart 8 feet away repeatedly hours a day, I rather skull ..... your fat and ugly wife.

But NASCAR Fans for the most part the audience the advertisers, and sponsors are trying to reach out too. Are for the most part people with good credit scores, and lots of extra income to spend on NASCAR anything.

Yes there are the sterotype NASCAR Fans also, but thry are the minority, not the mainstream.

NHRA, NBA, NHL, PGA, PRCA, and the other REAL Pro Sports have the same target audience of fans, people with good credit scores, extra income to spend,. Why market to those who do not even have a regular car, or car with a matching set of 4 tire on it rims?

I used to teach target shooting to kids. I would tell them if they want a money-making sport they might look into golf, because target shooting was not the way to make a living, at best it is an expensive hobby for all but a handful of sponsored people around the world.

Pool is not so different for most - if a person spends many years and lots of bucks learning to play pool at a high level, there still will be no assured path to a routine, healthy paycheck. Even top pros struggle to make close to six figures, an income which to me is the minimum for a one-breadwinner family.

Pool is different in one aspect though - it has a history of selfish players and promoters who regularly sell out the game, the players, and the future of the sport, all for a few bucks in their own pocket, or for their fifteen minutes of fame.

If this ever changes maybe Pool will be a sport like any other, and not a complex, difficult game that must be played for fun and enjoyment and personal satisfaction rather than for the big bucks.

Look at one of the best pool players of our generation - Earl Strickland, who by his own admission is struggling in New York, despite still having most of his skills intact, and despite having brought home the occasional big payday over the years.
 
Maybe Nascar wasn't a great analogy. They have a structure and promoters who routinely do what is good for the sport of auto racing. I thing Europe is moving pool in the right direction. It will take time. The US will follow.....kicking and screaming. ...but will follow. Best example I can think of is professional snooker.
 
Copy World Wrestling Entertainment, and allow sharking in the televised pro events with anything goes.
