Did Players Get Paid For Their IPT Winnings.

he still paid out more money than anybody else pretty much in the history of pool
while organizing the greatest pro tour the game has ever seen

hey you wanna buy a cancer cure for $20, it's all him right and not you?
lol

I see what you did there, and normally I wouldn't argue too hard the point as "buyer beware" and "sucker born every minute" and "if it seems too good to be truer" applies as the norm.

Who here doesn't know anyone that's been effected by Cancer...probably most here has experienced someone who has or had it and has since died, most a horrible drawn out death.

He exploited the disease called Cancer, the people who have/had
Cancer, who in many instances are searching for one last hope when chemo and alternative drugs have failed...because they're up all night worried, and watched one of his nonsensical infomercials and bought the book.

He preyed on these people. He deserves everything he got. Fahk him.

He is where he belongs, serving ten years for his criminal activities. He refused to reveal where he'd stashed his millions and would not pay the multi million dollar fine levied on him. This did not sit well with the presiding judge and they came down heavy on him. He should be out in a few years and will probably return to his scamming ways. That's the only life he knows.

I used to live outside Montgomery, Al. I could swear I once read an article where he is in prison in Montgomery at Maxwell Air Force Base. Access to fitness center, golf course, etc...If true, he definitely ain't serving "hard time"

IPT Tourneys

Just curious...did the IPT, ran by Kevin Trudeau, pay the players the huge amounts that were listed as their winnings, a decade or so back?

Ive been to many tourneys and a few in different countries and I can say I have never seen players treated so well and have the chance to make so much money.I was treated very nice at every event as I was Nick Varners cornerman /coach for every event and I really enjoyed myself.I hope someday pool players get a chance at huge prize funds again. As im sure everyone has their opinions about kevin Trudea but in the end every player got all their prize money but it did take a little to long. The only players that I knew that got ripped was the ones from the qualfiers.

he got little, some time in club fed while thumbing his nose at the mandate for restitution whilst hiding millions

he's good

Any vendor who put themselves in position to get stiffed is a dumbass and is guilty of being a poor businessperson

I sure hope you will never be in that position and on top of being cheated be called a dumbass.

The lines that you claim to present to your customers would bankrupt you real soon in many lines of business. Because the customer would not put up with such rudeness.

Yes, you can try to get money before you finish a contract but that depends on a lot of factors.

You are Donald Trump or Microsoft and the person you are serving is some minor business? You can do anything, even make him sign the lines you suggested.

You are an average person/business wanting a contract from someone/a business apparently greater/more powerful than you? Try that and you'll never earn a buck. Your competitors will take 99.9% of all contracts and you will be kicked out of the office by your potential partner.

So - my take is that most of the people who got stiffed by KT were in a poor position before they worked for him. In hindsight, it is really easy to call them "dumbasses". In reality, they saw someone promising millions to players and just expected to get their measly couple of hundreds or thousands paid.

Sadly those people can't even afford the fancy lawyers to get KT's a** kicked. They have my sympathy.

There you go. Simple and correct. Calling people with almost zero to lose who are facing a almost certain death sentence stupid and deserving of being fleeced is flat out wrong. My only wish is that KT serves everyday of his term and suffers a life altering "accident" days from his release.

Wow! That is one cool poster. I have that one, but I did not bother to get the autographs.

I saw Archer's wife running around getting autographs on her poster too.

This was a great pool souvenir to have!

A lot of people condemn Kevin Trudeau. I am in the other camp, as are the majority of the players. They were treated like professional athletes. The venues were first class. It was beautiful while it lasted.

Oh, and Keith got paid his qualifier monies.

Kevin Trudeau tried to create a pool tour, an international pool tour, and the players came out of the woodwork. He gifted each BCA Hall of Famer $30,000 just for showing up in Orlando in December 2005.

Say what you want about him, he spent millions, multiple millions of dollars, but his business failed. It was flawed. I believe he was given bad advice from the start. A smaller money payout might have been sustainable and kept the IPT business afloat.

We like Kevin Trudeau and appreciate what he tried to make happen for pool.

Yes, this does not contradict what I said. If you are in a STRONGER position you can do all that. If you are not, like some small vendor or pool player wanting something from an APPARENTLY strong business (and Trudeau at the time appeared to be a giant compared to his "customers") you will have to accept his terms. If you don't, someone else is going to take your place. So your only choice is: risk it or leave it entirely.

The same applies to all the businesses you mentioned: you don't like the terms of a certain hospital, very sought-after pool cue maker - you can risk accepting his/their terms or you'll have to look for another hospital or you just don't get that Black Boar, SouthWest or whatever.

Are you a dumbass when things go wrong, Black Boar Cues folds or the hospital charges way above reasonable?

Boils down to: You want something badly? The other party does not need to sell to you, contract you, whatever? Answer: Leave it. You may regret it if things work out for everyone else. Take it and things turn ugly. You're a dumbass? Not necessarily, because risk assessment might have been very favorable at the time. KT was throwing around millions. There are very few businesses that never have to take risks.

Sorry long read.
I got the poster signed by each player and Trudeau also. Ronnie O'Sullivan only went to the Las Vegas event so I fortunate to get his. Funny story as I was at the Orlando event and Jim Rempe was at a table to sign autographs and after he signed my poster a guy came to him and asked Rempe to sign a cue ball and Rempe refused and said he only signs cue balls for $100.00 and the guy was upset and said wow you got paid 30k just for coming to the event and you are gonna charge me to sign a cue ball and Rempe said I have always got a hundred and so the guy said ok then here is 200.00 and had Rempe sign 2 balls and walked away saying that guy must really need the money.
Also the only living Hall Of Fame player that did not agree to show up and play for the 30k free money was Jean Balukas. She tried to negotiate and said she wouldn't come for less than 50k so Trudeau didn't agree to her needs.
Another good story was in the back room on the main TV table separate from the other tables I was racking for Varner to practice and discussing breaking and patterns and Mike Sigel comes over after Varner had to do a Interview and I starting Helping Sigel and Mike ran 8 racks from the break and stopped and said out loud no one has a chance as He just ran a whole set race to 8 out. When Trudeau found out he stopped the Tournament and announced that if any player from there on ran 8 racks in a row he would pay them 100k in cash. The closest I saw was Archer ran a 6 pack the next match after Karen Corr beat him.
As far as payments from the last event which was in Reno each player no matter if they ever even won a single game got paid 5k just for showing up. The only person that I know of that didn't get paid was Ed Kelly as he was disqualified for using a break cue with a phenolic tip which was not aloud on the tour. Each player could use a phenolic ferrule but it had to have a leather tip on it.
From what I heard was After Trudeau was in agreement to sell the IPT to Chinese Billionaire Casino owner Stanley Ho for an undisclosed amount online gambling was stopped and that halted the sale as the intentions was to have matches available to wager online.
Also to note that almost every player I talked to got paid in full with 8 payments of 11% and a final payment of 12%.

No doubt that Efrens back was covered on this.

Efren is really well connected and most likely wouldn't even have to make a phone call regarding lack of payment. I am guessing that there are individuals, or parties that watch after Efren, that man is a national treasure.

Efren was or still is sponsored by Puyat sports. A quick google search on the "Puyat" name brings up a whole list of interesting articles.. Billiard table manufacturing, Bowling alley, etc.. But the most interesting part is the political connections. Gil Puyat was a Phillipino Senator up to 1972. So yea, that alone suggests that Efren's back is still well covered.

As a foreign player without a U.S. Social Security number, 30% was withheld from Efren's winnings. Whether or not that money (150K) went to the IRS no one knows for sure. I suspect Trudeau pocketed it. He was pressured into paying Efren the other 350K in fear of his life (That's no joke. Let's just say that Efren is an icon to Filipinos everywhere, including many who live here). Trudeau began paying Efren and the other players about two years after the tournament was over. He promised to pay them at 9% per month. Another 20 months later most of the players had been paid in full (99% anyway).

The players who played in qualifiers and ponied up 2K each were also promised repayment. That didn't happen. The referees were either partially paid or remained unpaid. Trudeau also stiffed the hotel (the Venetian) for the use of the ballroom and other ancillary expenses associated with accommodating the event. All the vendors who helped in staging the event (TV production crew etc.) were stiffed as well. Some of them did receive minimal expense money up front.

He owed me $5,500 as a sponsor/backer of Cliff Joyner. I had to go online (here and other places) and make a big stink before Deno Andrews finally sent me the money, after getting the run-around for a month or so. Like others on here I knew he was a bad guy, but nobody wanted to hear it. They bought his line of BS completely and ended up being very disappointed and disillusioned in the end. His excuse about not being able to obtain online gambling permits was all lies. He never had any direct contact with the Chinese billionaire casino owner (Stanley Ho) he claimed to be his partner.

I was talking with Jason Kirkwood last Saturday (2/24/18) and he say's he's never been paid.

Yep. These people saying everybody got paid need to put the pipe down. I know at least six that played and only ONE got all he was owed. The rest got checks sporadically and they just stopped.

Does anyone even care anymore though? I mean, really, another stiffing in pool?

If KT was a gambling sucker, and you beat him out of 10k, at 2k a game, and he stiffed you the last game, you'd be as happy as shit.

This is about the same thing.

Edit:
The more I think about this, this is exactly what it was. Pool players weren't' the suckers. KT was. Sigel probably had his ear, and convinced KT that he could make a ton of money in pool. KT is probably a C player, and Sigel maybe gave him some lessons, built up his ego further, and told him about the untapped billiard market. KT invested millions to get the IPT as far as it did. Then, saw its a sinking ship. Yes, I'm going with this. KT was the sucker here, not the pool players. The pool players made out like bandits! Especially Sigel. He was the smartest of them all. ha ha ha.

*Edit 2:
To extend the metaphor further, KT, being the sucker, beat a few of the pool room guys. But the more experience pool room guys, all beat him. Even the sucker gets a win once in a while. But he's still the big loser.

people need to differentiate between Kevin's intentions (likely bad) and his personality (likely a sociopath) against what he in fact accomplished

JAM has put forth the closest thing we have here as to how the "PLAYERS" feel about this matter

and I know Jay likes to tell that story about KT getting strongarmed by Efren's people which is in fact total bs, lmfao,

you guys wanna vent vent go find Mike Sigel, or KT himself

I also think its ironic KT is evil because he took money from old cancer patients watching late night TV. But the biggest whales in pool were all drug dealers who probably helped kill a bunch of teens and young adults via overdosing.

I know I had my biggest scores in the pool hall playing drug dealers. I had no qualms about it. Money is money, once its in play on the pool table. I know most here had no qualms about taking money from a sucker pool player pimp or drug dealer either. But, go after the cancer patients, they are off limits. Give me a break. ps, my mother died of cancer.

YMMV.

Kevin Trudeau is so famous and successful, that people are just out to get him.

According the amazon.com he just got another 5 star review for his "treatment of illness" knowledge.
49% 5 star reviews is really good.

His work is so strong that people are still buying a book that is a decade old.

Personally I don't like the guy, but Katherine Law, James Carson, Native Newporter and Barbara Jean Young having nothing but praise for the guy.

A true visionary is always controversial.
