Did we get ripped off?

Hey ,since some of you just finished with BCA can you tell me if "Slots a Fun" is still open. I heard from a friend who had heard a rumor it was closed down. I''ll be getting there on Thursday for the VNEA events and reluctantly also staying at the Riv again. It does suck but I guess worth it for the convenience factor. I also used my Players card and got 1 free night and the rest averaging about $50.00 per night.

Yes they are tied into Circus Circus now!
Get a card at both places and they give you a bunch of deals!
I went on net and sent away for coupons at places I chose and drank free
Margritas and beers all night !
I gambled there and they took care of us a little tip goes far here!
$1 dogs

Like I've said before, the only reason I stay at the Riv is so I can get drunk, roll down the hallway straight into the tournament room and play my matches. LOL

I had a couple of experiences this year at the Riv:

A friend of mine wanted to have a drink at the Splash Bar after one of our matches. On the way there, I mentioned the sourpuss bartenders and bet my friend $20 bucks that none of the bartenders would smile to anyone while we were there.

I won easily because we were only there a short time.----2 hours!!!!

The next one almost got me thrown out of the hotel.

One of the ladies teams, Loud and Proud, from San Antonio lost their first match and got flopped to the brutal bracket. On Friday, they started play at 9 in the morning and played nonstop until 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

About 6:00 p.m., Friday evening, I thought it would be nice to get them something other to eat than the stale nachos and chips that had sustained them most of the day. So, I went to Kady's for some take out.

I went to the main counter and sat down and looked at the regular menu. After 15 minutes of trying to get a waitress'es attention, I was finally able to flag one down.

I told her I wanted certain finger foods off the regular menu to go. She looked at me like I was nuts. She pointed at the pole at the end of the counter and said, "Read the sign." and dissappeared. I looked up at the sign that read, "Take Out Menu- 10% Service Charge on all Take Out Orders."

The menu only has about 15 items on it. So, I decide on the patty melts. After waiting another 5 minutes for the waitress, I finally get to order 4 patty melts at 11.99 each.

And this is where the fun starts. I ask the waitress to have the sandwiches cut into quarters. She looks me square in the eye and says, "The cooks won't do that." I said, "Excuse me? The cooks can't cut a sandwich into quarters?"

"Nope", she says. "I'll give you a knife and you can cut them."

At this point, I go bonkers and yell, "Get me the %$#$%$% manager of this place, NOW!!!!

And here comes the manager. I explain the situation and the manager tells me she'll be happy to supply a knife for me to cut them myself.

I said, "Let me get this straght. I'm paying 12 bucks for a sandwich I can get anywhere else in the world for 6 bucks and your cooks, who already have to cut the sandwich in half, can't turn the sandwich 90 degrees and cut it a second time. It's too techically difficult for them to do that?"

That's when they called security.

I said, "Give me the ticket, and when I come back and those sandwiches are not cut in quarters, I'm going to have someone's ass on a platter."

The security guards who escorted me outside laughed their rearends off. One of them told me he wouldn't eat in the hotel at all.

It was a MIRACLE!!!!

The manager had cut them herself. When I picked them up, I said "Why?"

She said, "Union."

Looking back, it sure seems trivial now, but at the time, it sure pi$$ed me off!

I agree if you are there for a tournament you need to stay at the riv.

We stayed an extra night at the APA $70 rate. Then we stayed also at MGM for sunday and monday nights at 69.99 a night for the West Wing room. Bargain!

I got coupons from vegasresourse.com they send you out what you pick or a package deal!
I picked and choosed and I paid more than if I bought the packages!
The riv has -had a free beer or margarita special with dinner buffet no coupon was needed !
I had $2 coupon off each buffet I bought from Vegas resource.com
Food was very good and convenient
I think it was like $12 break -$2 coupon dinner $18- $2 coupon
They have free drink coupons at slots of fun as well as other casino specials!

I went to Emeril's Delmonico's and realized I don't need to do that again!
I consider myself well off and fortunate and do not have a need to impress anybody.
I do what I want and as long as I don't hurt anybody else I feel that is my right!

I think the point that klockdoc was making was not that he couldn't afford the $8 but why do the BCA players get charged $8 more than the VNEA? Seems like it should be fair across the board.

I have said for 10 years that the Riv is a pit & have been told that it is the only place in Vegas to hold the BCA. I won't gamble a penny in the Riv so all they get out of me is paying rent for 10 days. The BCA does nothing by me to help them with their gambling totals - not that they need it. But I am sure that I am not the only one with the same opinion. It all adds up. If I lost just $2,000 a year in the Riv for the past 10 years that would be a nice $20K profit for them.

10 years ago, I was playing craps with Snooker John & teaching him a betting system I know. We were betting small just so he could see how it worked. For 45 minutes, like a robot, bet for bet he followed every move I made for $10 increments. A number is rolled & I get paid $10 but John does not. I ask the stickman, what about my friend's bet. The stickman says that he did have a bet. I said, for 45 minutes you have watched us make the same bets. The stickman's reply - "Well then mother f-er, you pay him". The pit boss just lowered his head and didn't say a word. Needless to say, I did. I told this story to a pitboss at the Wynn on my recent trip. I asked the pitboss at the Wynn what would happen if one of his employees said that to me. His reply - "He would be working at the Riv!"

I did want to bet my friend $5k when we were standing in line at Kady's (only because he begged me to go) and the wait was 20 minutes. I told him that when we got into the dining room, there would be a minimum of 20 empty tables. I stopped counting when I got to 25.

The Riv is so poorly managed, it survives out of shear stupidity. This year, when walking thru the casino out the door, I never saw the tables full. Yes Fatboy is right, the slow economy & larger inventory of hotels coming to Vegas in the next 3-4 years will keep the Riv alive.

Next year, I will have the hookup at the Encore & never have to spend a nickel at the Riv again. Thank you.

Hey guys....I might be a lil off track w/ Vegas hotels but please let me add "The Turning Stone" in Verona, New York. The hotel is OK, but every dealer we came across, we meaning many of the gambling players were a bunch of jerkoffs. We were gambling pretty high, and yet did not receive any nice remarks. Myself and K. McCready won about 7 or 8 dimes on the crap table, what a circus. They had about 10 pit bosses there, told me dont throw the dice high, low, hard or soft. So I pushed the dice to the main boss and asked him please show me how you would like me to throw them.
Then myself Jam, and Keith tried our luck at a BJ table one year, ofcourse we are stuck a couple of dimes. This dealer was just about clapping everytime she bumped us off, it was sick.
Please dont get me wrong, it is one of the best tournys held up north for pool, but if you enjoy casino action..............Oh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've never been to Vegas yet and thnx for the input, at least I know where should I veer off.

I work as a Table Games dealer for a tribal casino here in San Diego (Barona), and if these things had happened here, you won't get a verbal or a write-up, you'll be walking with a pink slip right then and there! Customer service is their number one priority here, and the players almost gets away with anything! I've seen players eat steak and lobsters to their heart's content and while they're 80% done, they'll complain that the steak wasn't done right and they'll get another, free of charge! I also saw players set their Pai-Gaw hand wrong and lost but got push anyway, same in BlackJack! All along, I thought all casinos are like us!

Fish On You just quoted yourself in your response. I don't think I have ever seen that before. And I have no idea what your point is in your response towards the quality of the food you ate. You can do what you want - feel free to go to the buffet at the Riv. I could careless. Someone has to eat it - but I think it might have effected you. j/k

Most casinos will let you reset a Pai Gaw hand if set wrong to get a push. That is not a big deal.

By the way, the dealer that called me a mother f-er still works at the Riv. I saw him in the hall - I was hoping that on one of my exits of the Riv I would see him working so I could re-tell my story in front of him while there was a full craps table. Never got the chance. Oh well, there is always next year.

I guess I felt you were demeaning me for eating there sorry if I took offence!

She was playing dumb, and I know how she plays. Have you ever heard a Vietnamese say the word, "Gamble"? She had a joker, an ace, a king, a jack, a ten, a 4 and a deuce, rainbow. She set it AJ, and a pair of Kings (joker is completely wild).

About the mofo who still works there, there's only one way to get back at him, win BIG and let him smell the roses for a while, lead him on like he's making something off of you when your done. Then tell him, "Payback's a b1tch!"

One word.... Convenience

Convenience is the only reason I stay at the Riv. I would rather pay a little more for the convenience of being able to just take the elevator down stairs to play my match.

I got smart this year and brought a cooler with beer/water/cokes along with lunch meats and misc snacks so I didnt have to eat very many mystery meat nuggets down stairs!
