Did we get ripped off?

I stayed at the Riviera (for the third time) for Open Singles and Team event. The rest of my team stayed at Circus Circus. I chose the convenience factor. It was great being able to go up to my room to crash between matches. I will admit though I have stayed at nicer places. We did spend a fair amount of time at Slots of Fun because of the price of beers, etc.

I did visit the AZ room once or twice. I'm not sure if the convenience is worth the additional cost (compared to Circus Circus) though. I forgot to sign up for a players card to see how that might work out at the Riviera for a room deal. I would guess though the BCAPL might have worked out a similar rate to APA or VNEA. There are enough players to make that work.

not ripped off

I'm not going to say anything about being ripped off. But last year, when the Predator 10-ball championship was held in Fla., my buddy was going to play. I looked at the hotel rates, and suffice it to say that we got a better deal completely ignoring the tournament rates. To repeat myself, "ignore the tournament rates". There is no advantage at the 10 ball Predator championship. Whether you were ripped off is another question. It's a monster great tournament, kudos to Charlie. Just shop around for your hotel.

use the players card

I ended up getting most of my nights comped even before arriving.
Yes, it is not a high end hotel, but it is damn convenient to stay a quick elevator ride away when your last match ends at 2:30am and you have to back for your next match at 9:30am.

I ended up in one of the newly renovated rooms and found it to be acceptable, other than being woke up at 7:00am by a hilti drill in the room below  That sucked!

go in with low expectations and you will not be too disappointed!

I was stationed in Las Vegas with the air force in 1971. I remember one of the great things about Vegas was you could eat cheap. I guess that has changed. I am going to the APA team tourny in Aug. Am I going to have a good time, or are the conditions so bad that all I will remember are the bad things about the hotel?
I liked he convience of staying at the hotel where the valley forge convention takes place. I thought the service was so bad that I won't go back. I get a better deal and better service at any of the small motels in the area. It's worth the five minute ride.
My league operator takes care of all the arrangements. He books and pays for the flights and the hotels. We don't have to do any of the work.

The Riv isnt the worst hotel in the world, the staff arent the nicest, the casino dealers also are not nice, but its close to the venue.

If you care about pool at all (which obviously you do) you will have a great time.

I went to the APA team tourny a few years ago and had a fantastic time. I hadly even recall the hotel at all, and drinking wasn't involved!

Don't be expecting a bad time, or you'll get it. Just play pool and have fun!

By the way, congratulations on going.

No doubt! You have better lucky winning money for drinks then you do seeing a waitress!
