I'm looking for guesses on what type of wood this is.

Its hard to tell with those pictures. If there where dark stipes I would guess coco. I have some that is this dark and red.

I have some pieces of Brazilian Rosewood that look like that. When I can't tell what it is, I usually sand a little and smell it. It may be too late for you to do that here though.

It looks like Cocobolo in the pictures. It could be a Rosewood also, but Rosewood that orange is rarer than Cocobolo for sure.

Looks like Mexican Coco to me, at least what the pics are showing me.

One reason that you don't recognize it now is because it has darkened.
Is that a possibility? Mex. Coco can darken over time to a dark brown. So brown in fact that it can be difficult to see the black streaks.

It's not Cocobolo.

I know that for sure, because I've never bought any. Heard all the stories about allergic reactions and trouble finishing. So I've stayed away from it.

I pretty sure it's some kind of Rosewood (which doesn't narrow it down much), I'm just not sure what type. I guess I should have tagged the blanks after I turned them round. I suppose if someone asks, it's enough to say it's Rosewood and leave it at that:embarrassed2:
