Different Schon joints?

In this picture it shows 2 types of Schon shaft joints.

Are there differences or is one clearly aftermarket?

Any info would be helpful...

Shaft on the left looks like someone else made it, not Schon.

The shafts are Runde era.
The shaft with the wood pilot is aftermarket and I doubt was made by Mr. Runde.
The ring-work is close but doesn't match exactly.
Notice that the black dash is wider on the orig. Runde shaft.

The reason I ask is I purchased a Runde-Era Schon with 2 shafts and was told by another player that my shafts were aftermarket. He pulled out his Runde-Era Schon and the joint on his shaft was rounded, like a compression fitting, just like the shaft on the right in the original pic.

I believe Schon shafts also say Schon on the shaft or on the collars. Don't know which era had it on the collar or when it changed to the wood side.

I have made a few replacements but with the phenolic cap to look like Schon.

hey joe, id bet a lot of money that neither of those shafts in bottom pic are schon shafts (especially the less used one with wide grain on butt end of shaft)

From what I have read, the shafts from the 80's to early 90's didn't have the Schon logo.

Pre 1993 shafts were unmarked, however all the pilots Ive ever seen were still phenolic over the inserts.

wood inside collar's looks too new, and that one shaft that has wide grain near joint looks like wood for a break shaft (I don't recall ever seeing a schon shaft with grain that wide on it)......I might be wrong im no expert.....but very unbelieving on those being original schon shafts (and ive owned ALOT of schons, from sharp pointed ones 20+ years ago with rings like yours, to a new one I bought 12 months ago).

I do not think either of these two shafts are original Schon shafts.

I would agree Joe, neither of those shafts shown in your pictures are Schon shafts (referring to the picture of the cue on the yellow blanket or towel).

I will add though that I believe you can call Evan at Schon and arrange to have a couple of stitched ring shafts made. At least I think they will still do that for the old Runde cues...?

Thank you to all who responded...I asked the seller if he had any info or that if he was still in contact with the previous owner, was there any info on who made these shafts.

No good info back besides saying he knows one of them was original.

So, looks like an unfortunate difference of opinion.

Guess I will chalk it up to my inexperience with Schon Cues as I had no idea they were not made by Schon. I purchased the cue in late July and found out a month ago...so it's not like I can ask for a refund or anything.
