Digital Scale for Cue Parts?

I'm looking to upgrade my $20.00 digital (postal) scale which only reads to a tenth of an ounce to one that will read to a hundreth, or two decimal places. I'm looking for something small and affordable. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Check with "Office Depot" - they have a pretty large range of scales - at least you will have some ideas of features and prices if you see something cheaper on ebay .

I have an old triple beam scale. If you get a new digital scale set it for grams, it will be more accurate. And be sure when you do the conversion you don't divide by 28. You have to divide be 28.35. If you don't you will be off by 1/4 of an ounce on say a 20 ounce cue. By the way, the scale you have may have a setting for grams. If so you don't need a new scale. A triple beam scale reads to the tenth of a gram and you can also read half measurements making it more accurate then you would ever need with cues. I use it for measuring epoxy and finish also.

I teach chemistry and physical science. You're better off using a triple beam as mentioned in a previous post; they're accurate to 0.1 gram which offers more accuracy than necessary in cue making. And get a set of standard weights, too, in order to properly calibrate the scale. DO NOT IGNORE THIS POINT.
 
I'll bet there's a rollyourown forum somewhere with some excellent scale information :)

A friend of mine is a manager for Office Depot in the inner city. He said that his best selling items are the scales.

The shelves that usually hold scales in our local office supply stores are always bare with only the most expensive models in stock. I am sure some of those guys twisting off are snatching them up, but I bet alot are from fleabay sellers also. Not to mention they are used in several hobbies, and bussiness, as they are in cuebuilding.

They can be found on ebay as mentioned. some digital scales even have a fixture to hold tube mailers, so would be easy for the person such as a dealer to get a quick weight on a cue without It rolling off. Sure they come in different measurements. They might be alright for a cuebuilder, but I used tripple beams in school years ago, and they were very accurate, nothing compared to them at the time. If It's for duel purpose, and you will be weighing packages with It, then the digital will probably be more suited.

Thanks everyone for the input. I just bought a portable 1000g scale on ebay with counterweight and case for 69.00 including shipping. It will read in grams or ounces. With ounces it will read to third decimal place. It will be of limited use for shipping becasue it has a limit of just over 3 lbs.

Once I use it for a while I'll report back on how well I like it.

Digital Scale

just an idea....


they make a digital scale for weighing fish, goes to 100ths, maybe (1000ths ??)

bout 30 bucks or so.

walmart, kmapart, bass pro, cabelas, local sporting goods, bait shops ??
