Ding, Ding, Ding ........ warning bells went off for good reason.

What is the format? I couldn't find any info as to the races or when it's over, etc., much less any handicap system.

I'll have my hair in a ponytail, as I'm regressing back to becoming a hippie again. I play with a SP Predator. Look for me on the left side of the bracket.:p

From what I understand you get a rating (400-700?) and object balls worth 10 points, 8 ball worth ?50? (unsure) and you play till you reach your total, match ends when one player reaches his/her number, even in the middle of a game.

I'm taking off in about an hour. Gotta pick up a guy on the way and want plenty of driving time since it's been snowing like crazy here the last couple hours and roads won't be too nice. Easily have 2 inches plus on the ground now.

It sure wouldbe nice to stay on the "right" side of the bracket for a few matches ...... we'll see I guess. :sorry:

Really? I say we league players might just have an edge, then.

It snowed here in DSM this morning but has melted already.

You know alot of guy's that loose their money playing pool really hustle themselves, because the most talented players will just get you "stuck like chuck", because they know you are going to ask to raise the bet to get even.

You then began the rasing and chasing phase of the game, so after it's all over you can't say you got hustled but that you really hustled yourself!:p

I tried to reply yesterday...went like this

Kobachi your story made me laugh. Good stuff.

To the rest of you huggers and haters I want to throw in 2 cents.

Knocking is always nitty, I've done it out of ignorance. Probably when I was amazed at someone's talent, etc. One time I do encourage it is when a player tries to slip in at a handicapped tournament under their real skill level. Obviously don't let a personal friend step into a trap.

Gambling is not for some of you from what I read. Sorry to have break it to you in front of everyone like this. Well maybe you can gamble with some friends...until they get a couple of balls ahead of you. Then you might out them. I know, I know its not about the money. It's about being honest up front and not trying to lay a trap, right ? You don't like the idea of getting trapped because that's not being nice now is it ?

You have more gamble to play a stranger than ANYONE you've ever seen shoot or played against. Isn't gambling more about the outcome being unknown ?

Regardless there will always be "fish" to eat because they like to get wet every now and then. There are always going to be thieves and donors. If you don't like the unknown then just play recreational pool and keep your money in your pocket.

I would rather see you post up pictures and names of bad drivers and jerks instead of someone who doesn't play by your rules or appears to be a hustler in your eyes. Either way don't cry about it, if you want a safe encounter gambling then always say NO to the unknown player.

Note to O.P. you did nothing wrong, perhaps you sensationalized the story a bit, but that's essential to a good story.

I just wish you hadn't told them I smoke...:(

Lost some of the fire today in my reply.

Those of us not into the sleazy hustler sub culture have no honor owed to those on the road trying to steal our wages. You see we don't really care if these guys ever get action from us or any other "fish" or not. I wish he would have posted a picture of him and his real name. Well at least this one appears to have had to get a real job to eat although he is thin by all accounts. DING DING, reality check!!
I agree 100%.

To hell with the "honor amongst thieves".

Hustling should be dead.

There I said it.

Unfortunately, the world is "a-changin". I really don't see the need for beating on IA8baller.

The life of a pool hustler has gone the way of cowboy bank robber. It is simply no more.

We recently had a top pool player come into Buffalo Billiards in disguise and I mean a real good disguise, family in tow, tennis player visor etc. Anyway, I wasn't positive who he was because he kept giving me only side glances. He isn't really well known at our pool hall but he had been there only 15 minutes when the room started buzzing. I don't usually say anything to anyone unless asked but no one was asking me. They were telling me who the player was.

With smart phones, cell phones, player finder data bases and the like, the day of sneaking up on someone is over. Sure, you might sneak up on someone once in a while but to do it for a living is a chance of slim and none.

Even more recently, he returned and found a game with one of our locals and got stuck early by giving up a heavy spot, got even and that was the end of the action.

This forum is composed of our peers, people who enjoy reading about and writing about pool. IA8baller is one of us. I enjoyed his story and smile at his description of the trucker.
JoeyA, once again I agree with you...this is getting scary!

I can't believe how some guys shit in their pants when someone asks to play for five dollars. This is too funny, but also sad.

If knocking is always nitty then why do so many people ask others for the line before they get into anything? Do those people want to be lied to?

You hustler-lovers crack me up.

Lines

If you ask, I'll tell what I know, not cool to send a friend into a gunfight with a knife.

If you play better when a wager is made, I understand and suggest you set up the action within your social circle of pool friends. Stay away from unknown players.

They probably ask for a line if they are betting it up because the thrill of the wager is soon offset by the loss of the dough. Quitting early may factor in too.

We should get off Hustler's backs and pick on Dumpers, wait likely the same group:embarrassed2:

Here's to everyone finding an honest game :)

For some reason when he said cowboy boots and belt buckle and that he played good, my first thought was Scotty Townsend. But he is like in his 50s I think. Also I don't think he drive a big rig at all.

But he does play good. That would be a good undercover role for Scotty, driving a big rig to an alligator wrestling contest, throw in some runout nine ball for good measure.:wink:
