smart move....?
I haven't posted in a few weeks in here, haven't really been playing.
I am sick over the cue thing, I am waiting on four cues I've been owed forever. They should be coming soon and in the meantime I am still playing with the new cheapy I bought.
Quick story, (my journal

so I can waste time...) I bumped into some guys while practicing with my Dad the other day and won a quick buck.
We're horsing around, my dad enjoys the game, but never took it seriously, even in my "weakened" state I give him the 7&8. So the ball jumps the table, and the guy who picks it up asks nicely if we want to play some $5 a game.
OK, sure. I plan on moving to his 8' where I make balls 50% better than on the 9'. That's always the last thing to come back, making balls. Anyway, so I haven't played for any money in about 15 years, so even for $5 my heart rate picks up. Still I figure on an 8' I can run out pretty good, and the guy will have to show something, if he has it, to beat me.
I break, make two balls and I'm straight in on the one. Without thinking I spank it in, and play shape. I can hear the guy making a partners game with someone else in the room.
As I get to the last four, still in line, the guy announces, this is the ONLY 9-ball game and then we're going to play partners 8-ball. I get a guy I know as my partner.
Now if I run the rack, I know they will probably quit and the $5 will be all I ever see, not to mention knocking me in the room I've been so careful in. Yes, for running one rack. :sorry:
So, I dog the seven, hand it straight in for him, he gets out and we play partners. After losing 2 @ $5 a man, and 2@10 a man, my 9-ball opponent quits, saying he'll go back to playing me 9-ball singles. The 8-baller wants to play some $20 a game singles so I do (splitting the action with my doubles partner).
I win 4 in a row, playing boring defensive 8-ball, never running more than three balls. They pull up, but I am sure I made a good "sale" and that the 9-baller will play me more next time he sees me.
I gotta admit, as an ego stroke, coming from the 9 footer I felt solid on that little box, and it felt even better to be totally in control for $20 a game, making smart moves and getting out when the time was right.
My Dad, after all this time, had never seen me play for $$ an was coaching and trying to console me every shot. It was hysterical "Aw, come one, that's an easy one, you make those on me all day." He would whisper, and then I would explain, sotto voce, that I didn't want to get out, that was bad for business, I wanted to plant that stripe in front of the pocket so the other guy could not get out. It only looked like I was trying to make it.
