Is there any article on building a quality cue lathe?
I am great with my hands and I want to get experience repairing and later on building cues. I want to open my own business for cue repairs and custom cues in the suffolk county, new york area.

In a past edition of The Rockford Files (Jim Rockford - founder) it was calculated at present rate William Gates would not be able to spend all his money as planned in his lifetime.

When asked if he had an alternate plan to assure spending all of his money Mr. Gates simply replied "Yes, I will buy a lathe and wood and become a cue maker."

Welcome to the addiction.

That is similar to an old quote I recall hearing over and over...

Whats the best way to end up with a million dollars in auto racing? Start out with 10 million dollars...

If you want to buy the individual components I have them available but.....

As an EX auto stock car racer (hence my screen name), ESPECIALLY racing BMW's on dirt track, I can't stress how true that statement is,lol.

Not too many pool halls left in Suffolk county. Here again, you'll find all the parts you need and even some help from the cue lathe guys.

Neither of which have anything to do with building a cue lathe.

You are correct, it was 1am and my brain wasnt fully functioning. All I comprehended was "How to build a cue". Although it may be my brain and not the time of day, I havent figured that one out yet. I am sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Not really a problem - It's just that it seems anytime some nubie poster
who wants to learn to repair cues even mentions lathe, people line up
around the block to tell him to contact Chris.:)

At that late hour, I was somewhat bemused by the idea of someone who
sells cue lathes - teaching people how to build one.

Upon further reflection - it now strikes me - he also builds cues, and sells books on how to build a cue.

Yes, I have created a lot of cue building competition for myself. But in reality the book does show a good bit about how to modify lathes, although it does not show how to build one from scratch. For instance, I have a drawing in there of one of my early router tapering jigs mounted on a wood lathe.

Hey just wanted to hit you up on this. After 2 years of looking a putting stuff together for a lathe my advice to you. Just do what I did keep looking and one will pop up. youll save money and you know that what your getting is the right tool for the job.
But even now with my Hightower lathe I have made a ton of upgrades. You will be better off in the long run.

But if I had to give you any building advice hit up the internet.

Chris I love my lathe!

Yeah, I was looking at chris's lathes for a while now. Probably getting the micro 3 lathe so I can bring it to the pool halls on specific days and start a schedule out, so people start bringing in the things they need repaired and I can do it on the spot in the pool hall. Would be good for tournaments and such.
