I was thinking about a way to keep chalk from sticking to the bottom of my cue case. I prefer putting the tip down first because my logic is gravity wants the chalk to fall down the tube anyways, so I'd rather not have chalk in my threads.

Anyways, here's the idea. Glue, adhere, stick a piece of foam like material to the inside radius of a quarter and drop the quarter down the tube. The weight from the coin lets you remove the setup whenever you please.

If anyone has any better ideas or improvements.

wiping the tip shaft cue down with a towel before you put your cue in the case.
 
Why not just put the shaft in tip down every time and the only thing that gets chalk on it would be the tip.. Cleaning off the tip every time really doesn't keep your shafts clean or anything...

I hate when I see people wiping their tips off on the carpet.. Do you do that at home? Its gross...don't be such a pig. :)

I'm sure the chalk that's on my tip is cleaner than the bottom of my shoes after I walk out of the bathroom of a pool hall. Some ppl need a better perspective.:wink:
 
Am I the ONLY person on the planet who puts the butts and tips of cues UP in their cases?

I've NEVER put my tips down. When I finish playing I wipe them off and place them in the case TIP UP. The ONLY part of my case that gets chalk on it is the inside of the top which I wipe down with a damp cloth. I have cases that are 40 years old and look almost brand new on the inside.

No, don't feel alone. I'm sure there are least three or four other people in the world who put them in tip-up. I can't name them, but I'm almost sure they exist. :D

Like others, I just grab a cocktail napkin from the bar and wipe the tip off.

Does that mean its OK to add to the dirt?
People just do things at pool halls they would never do at home.
People just don't seem to care about things that aren't theirs, yet complain if things aren't perfect..?

If I ever get a new case, I'll be sure to do that, but for the time being, I shudder to think of exposing my threading to the unreachable chasm of chalk boogies that resides deep within the depths of my cue case.
 
Get some finger condoms. Perfect for tips. Cheap and easy to carry extras if you lose or one breaks. Just don't let your friends see them. Jokes will be endless.

I just wipe my tips off before putting them in the case. Works great, not a hint of chalk in my case, which is how I like it. I hate seeing nice cases with blue chalk marks all over the inside.

And no, I do not wipe it off on the carpet, such a thing has never once occurred to me. I usually grab an extra towel from the bathroom at some point and, failing that, I always have my own small towel with me in my case for wiping my hands when it's warm....I have a spot near the logo that I use to wipe tips when needed (that way I know where the chalk is and can avoid it when wiping my hands).

Outsville should have those in stock by the end of the week in the store... Was waiting on the labels to list them but will list them for anyone looking for them.... 1.50 each 10 for 10 bucks....

Not only do they keep the case clean they will actually help protect your tips from changes in moisture when you have them in storage over the long haul...

I always wrap my tips in saran wrap when I have them out for display... I alway hate picking up a cue and finding out the leather has dried out and started to dry rot......

It's chalk,it's not dirt. I see being aggravated at people wiping cue tips off on a pool hall carpet more of a pet peeve.
Do I do things at a pool hall I don't at home? Sure, like wear shoes. I don't wear shoes in my home. I also don't put high traffic dark sectional carpet on my floors either.
If I ever went to a pool hall where they had white or even a light colored carpet I would see it as something wrong to do, but I have yet to see that and don't think I ever will.
I also don't see people that complain about things not being perfect and people that don't care about things at the hall as being in the same camp.
To me they seem like 2 different factions.
Personally I don't wipe my cues on the floor nor do I wipe the tips off with anything else.
My cue tip is meant to have to chalk on it and I don't see any reason to put it on just to wipe it off.
I think this action is some type of OCD or perhaps some way for people to feel better about themselves but to each his own.
As long as the table and the balls are clean I'm good to go and thats all that matters for gameplay.

Do you chalk your tip over a napkin so it catches all the chalk dust? If not, well then guess what, you're adding plenty of chalk to the carpet.

Some cases have tapered tubes so you have no choice but to put the tips down.
