Thoughts
Chalk holders, I think, help some, but more so for
adults that have adult attention defiency, and can
not switch from 1 area of attention to another easily
and keep their focus. My profession is in computers,
and developing large scale mainframe systems was my
forte'. I got 'exercise of the mind' everyday from being
able to focus on one thing (systems development) to
another (my users and working with them) off and on
on a daily basis. That's one of the reasons I can quickly
focus in on my Pool game, which helps to get into a zone.
Players always concentrate on the mechanics of a good
Pool game, but there is a point, when your game reaches
a certain level, where developing mentally becomes more
important a tool for raising your game, then just the
sheer mechanics of a run out. My job also helped with
thinking logically and objectively about Pool, to which
probably contributes to me being complemented or
complained about (which side of the fence you on) as
being a real tough mental player. That's just saying I
have been on the ropes quite a few times, and had
the grit and toughness to come back and win.
Your body can not do what your mind isn't prepared for.
and another one I like, You move towards what you think about.
Ponder those for awhile, and they become enlightening.
