Do chalk holders allow you to keep your focus?

Thoughts

Chalk holders, I think, help some, but more so for
adults that have adult attention defiency, and can
not switch from 1 area of attention to another easily
and keep their focus. My profession is in computers,
and developing large scale mainframe systems was my
forte'. I got 'exercise of the mind' everyday from being
able to focus on one thing (systems development) to
another (my users and working with them) off and on
on a daily basis. That's one of the reasons I can quickly
focus in on my Pool game, which helps to get into a zone.
Players always concentrate on the mechanics of a good
Pool game, but there is a point, when your game reaches
a certain level, where developing mentally becomes more
important a tool for raising your game, then just the
sheer mechanics of a run out. My job also helped with
thinking logically and objectively about Pool, to which
probably contributes to me being complemented or
complained about (which side of the fence you on) as
being a real tough mental player. That's just saying I
have been on the ropes quite a few times, and had
the grit and toughness to come back and win.

Your body can not do what your mind isn't prepared for.
and another one I like, You move towards what you think about.
Ponder those for awhile, and they become enlightening.

The chalk holders do one thing for sure.

They label you.

And, I'm not sure you like the label.

Same with the gloves.

I don't think chalk holders or gloves label anybody except in the minds of small people. I use a chalk holder, but I don't like using a glove. If I thought somebody around me was so small as to label people who use gloves, I think I might tend to start using one in his presence just to piss him off.

You guys had better not play pool in Australia. It is a foul (2 shots) if you put your chalk on the table !!

So most players have blue stained pant pockets, stretched and tattered from digging for chalk.

labels! :)

Hey I've played in Australia, man is it hard to find regular pool tables. Atleast it was for me. I also played in singapore, they had a nice pool hall there when I went. I didn't know that about the foul thing in Aus. Good thing I wasn't able to find any action. LOL :)

I don't look at having a rythym as a "method" persay. My focus, approach, stance, shot, chaulking, and reapproaching are all part of that rythym. All players have a rythym, weather it is effective or not is the question. If it isn't then it should be tweaked to gain a certain rythym that will become habit...

I wasn't referring to the rythym method as anything pertaining to pool. I said there are better ways out there than using the "rythym method". ( for...you know what I mean)
