Do jump shots ruin the felt????

dents that ruin the cloth

How about the sweet hop off the break? My table gets spots from the break, hop, and everything else that improves my game.

I believe that jacked up shots, such as stun shots near or on a rail will do this is as well.

I was practicing shots off the side rail, straight in to the corner pocket on the spot, jacked up.....and noticed trails of the burn marks to the object ball.

I'm assuming since I was jacked up and hitting the ball hard, the cue ball was skidding across the cloth making the marks.

This could also be caused from bank shots. The sudden change of direction will cause the burn marks and eventually you will get a line along side the rail.

My Simonis is only about a month old but right away I started seeing burn marks from breaking. I just cut a 9 x 11 chunk of regular paper in half and break off of that, does not seem to affect anything. I only do it when I am playing alone, when someone comes over to play I just use it like a regular table, no paper. It bothered me a little cause I put the dark green cloth on, burn marks stick out like a sore thumb on it.

How do you protect where the CB drop? And will the dual-layer "cloth" affect the feel of the jump shot?

Jive, I am thinking about the same thing since I am practicing my jump shot these passing weeks, although I am playing on Chinese pool table with snooker felt as you know.

Hey Jay,

Actually the main damage comes from the execution shot not so much the landing spot of the CB.

I just changed the cloth on my home table and I keep the original one, had it cut to smaller pieces and place it under the CB for practice jump shots. If its just for regular shots I can't be bothered to place a cloth under the CB, like one poster mentioned above I just write it off as collateral damage..wear and tear..

Practicing jump shots in pool halls is a strict no no for many places... But if you wanna do it in Chinese pool halls the best way is to use the cloth that they use for racking the tables. I think it only happens in China and exclusively for Chinese 8 Ball where they have an extra piece of felt which they use for racking to prevent premature wear and tear while racking the balls. You can use that piece of felt for practicing jump shots.
