When you play pool real good, do people and players respect you or the pool game you play? Sometimes people do not even pay attention to the person playing the game, just how good of a game the person plays! What do you think?
Many Regards,

Routinely get standing ovations. ;) Seriously, I would say they do to a limited extent. But you would need to ask them.

I can say I get respect both ways. It really depends on the other persons viewpoint, but all respect is appreciated and humbling. I must say getting respect away from the pool table is a lot more rewarding.

I think people respect me for the kind of person I am, not my pool game. The persons always of more value anyway as the quality of a person's game ebbs and flows. But a man's true measure remains constant.

Heath, FWIW, I respect you and your game!

Maybe not. But I don't care.

I want to be remembered for my honesty and integrity. Pool's not important.

As Tom Cruise said "It's just balls and a stick".

I believe if a person plays real well, then their game demands respect. As far as a person, that depends on the individual. Some people play real well but are terrible human beings. I can think of more than a few players who play well and are great people while the exact opposite can be true. Having confidence in one's game and being cocky about their game are two completely different things.

Win or lose, play well or poorly, I find the majority of players don't comment on my game at all. However, they can't wait to tell me every aspect of their play, which is of no interest to me whatsoever.

The better the player, the more this applies.

Its the game that commands the respect. Even people who dont like you will still respect your game. Off the table though, an ahole is an ahole. When I was a kid I made myself a promise. When I finally learn how to play this god dam game, I will not look down upon those who cant.

I am in a unique situation since I own a pool room. People come to me all the time seeking advise and I do my best to help them out. While my game is not what it once was, I still have a good deal of knowledge that has been gained over the last 40 years that I freely share with anyone who asks for my assistance. I especially like working with the kids, it is amazing how many want to try and learn this sport. I also enjoy working with my APA teams, a number of the team Captains have asked me to help them and their players out.

I don't think that in most cases people care if your a Pro, Short Stop, or an average player everything depends on how you act toward others. Some good or even decent players come off in a standoffish manner, which repels others and some players are just plain arrogant which also has a negative effect on how they are perceived. I think part of being a good player is how you are accepted and interact with others. Because lets face it those who talk a big end up sharking themselves because they can't perform to the level that their mouth does and that can be seen in almost any place pool is played throughout this Nation.

So I think over all most who know me respect me and my game.

Interesting thread, thanks for starting it!!

a-holes are less likely to give respect to the other player and many a-holes are better players than I am and since i tend to play against better players i don't get a lot respect.

I do not know and if I asked people I wouldn't expect an honest answer (at least not to my face) I would say all 4. Some people respect my game some don't; some respect me, some don't and I will never be able to find out the % of any of it.

It takes a respectful person to understand a respectful thread. I am glad I started this thread, Manwon. You are a very respectful person. You are welcome for my starting this thread. I appreciate your input into any of my threads.
Having your own pool hall gives you an Eagle's eye view of all things going on in a pool hall. Being helpful to young people and for the matter to all people that will allow you to help them is a major plus for you. I like to help people too. If they allow me to help them or they really want help with their game. Thank you, Manwon.

Some respect is better than none. Remember that point.
