Do people respect you or your pool game?

When you play pool real good, do people and players respect you or the pool game you play? Sometimes people do not even pay attention to the person playing the game, just how good of a game the person plays! What do you think?

My thought is that Respect is usually done in silence.

For example, I watched the Hard Times tourny and greatly respected the play, But I didnt tell anyone that who was playing.
As long as someone is not a jerk and plays well, I will naturally respect the "person" who has the good game as well, they start off with my respect as a default position for the work they have put into their game, but could lose it if their personality gets in the way.

As for my playing, I'm not a great player, but whenever I do something I think is very good on the pool table, that maybe should/could get some respect, no one ever says a thing. Again, its silent..... :(

Bottom line, I think respect is good and we should strive to be respected by our game (and more importantly by our lives), but we should not expect everyone to notice.....People are more likely to notice when you do something that DOESNT deserve respect.

great concept for a thread.

Good post. Sometimes it does not take a lot of words to mean something good. On the other hand when something is wrong or bad it takes a lot of words.

Respect

I think they respect me for the person I am first. I am a Sportsman, I love the sport. I give respect to my opponent, and try to be courteous while playing. I always shake hands before the match, and at the end, win or lose.

I have had people come up to me, and tell me that they thought I am a very good player, but most of the people are not what I call players to begin with. Players kind of stand off, and just watch your game to see how well you are shooting. I don't have players rushing up to match up with me though, so they must respect my game some, huh!

Yeah,
I would say they do respect your game. Good input.

respect

Lock & Load
you seem like a very respectful person and what i understand you are a hell of a shot. no problem with the respect.

best player in my town cheats thinks im to stupid to know what double hit is or a push. no respect.

I feel bad for some of the pro that get mixed up with temper issues.

But to me pool is shut the hell up ,and shoot give me your best game....
if you want to talk shit go away, ruins the game for me.

During league play it amazes me at the other players that will tell me that they talk about how smooth my stroke is, and my consistent pre shot routine. People that aren't on my team or that I wasn't playing against.

Never thought it was that good but apparently many do.

Good post.

Guy on my team slack racks, talks crap, and moves around the table during opponent's shots. All during practice with his own team. It's a mystery to me.

And he's an excellent player who's due to win Top Shooter this session. I don't understand why folks can't just show a little class and let their skill talk for them. :frown:

I am the reincarnation of Rodney Dangerfield.

Poor Rodney....he's the guy who bought a used car....
...and his wife's dress was in the back seat.:smile-square:

Well, I hope you get a little more respect in this life.

Why, I thank you for those kind words. And for your post. Make them shut up when they are playing you. And show you some respect.

I'm not looking for respect, just the money at the end of the day. If a player does'nt respect me or my game thats perfect. I like them to walk away pissing and moaning about losing

Actually, I am the Rodney Dagnerfield of pocket billiards. But anyways, I have been asked (not in relation to any pool game) would you rather be feared or respected. To be honest, I'm neither and that suites me just fine and at the end I'm more than happy to agree that I got all the rolls, or that they gave the game away, or they chalk got in their eyes, they they were distracted, or whatever. If I'm on the correct side of the win loss column what do I care? They can diss me all they want. I just smile all the way to the bank. I have the money, the trophy, or the win, I'm good with not having their respect.

I don't worry about that. I just play. If they talk during my shot or try to shark me I laugh and find it amusing. It doesn't bother me anymore because I used to play golf with a guy who did everything he could to get in my head. After awhile I tuned him out and just found it funny, especially since I was beating him every time (though not according to his fixed scorecards).
