Do the pros do stupid sh*t like us amateurs do???

Mike Massey

There is a video of Mike Massey where in a tournament many years ago, after his opponent breaks and does not make a ball, Mike comes to the table and while evaluating the layout of the table, the one ball is sitting in front of the side pocket and the cue ball is 6 to 10 away but straight on with the one ball into the side pocket. Mike casually pick's the cue ball up and moves it two or three inches to give him a better angle to get on the two ball.

Scary thing is, nobody caught except the announcers after the fact.

Facts maybe slightly different than told, as i had seen this video many years ago.

I'm talking about the upper echelon players here. Do they do dumb things like miscue on a draw shot and jump the cueball OVER the object ball and into a pocket? Do they ever mess up the perfect rack by bumping the balls with the triangle when removing the rack? Do they ever accidently drop a cube of chalk into a pocket? How about when they clear the pockets, do they ever roll the balls downtable and BACK INTO a pocket? Has anyone ever seen a pro scratch on a lag shot or hit the other players ball when lagging? I wonder if a pro ever tries to chalk his/her cue with the paper side of the chalk?

I watch a LOT of pool live, on streams, YouTube, and on television (well, it USED to be on television :frown:). Other than missing a VERY easy shot on occasion, or missing a ball COMPLETELY every once in a while, I cannot remember ever seeing a pro make some of the stupid mistakes that we amateurs make, and make fairly often :embarrassed2:.

So tell us, what kind of gaffes have you ever seen a pro commit while in a match? And....tell us about something stupid you did at one time or another.

Maniac (does stupid sh*t all the time :()

you really have been watching me play haven't you? I got all these moves down pat !!!

I remember once spending nearly an hour battling for a shot in a game of one pocket...The other guy finally sold out a shot straight into my pocket. I was so frazzled by the defensive marathon that I forgot which pocket was mine.

I made a neat cross corner bank into his pocket and played perfect shape for his next ball. I was still congratulating myself when I noticed my opponent waiting for me to sit down. Brutal.

"in all "fairness", there's only a 12.5% chance that you ARE going to pick the unpapered side to chalk with..."

actually, 16.666%; a cube has 6 sides, not 8.

I have seen Allison Fisher jump the CB over the OB and straight into the pocket while trying to draw the ball. Everyone is right that pros just do it less often than we amateurs do. My trick is to shoot the balls out of order...notably the 4 and the 5. My comment when my opponent points this out and demands ball in hand is "I can shoot, I just can't count." Maybe that is why I like 14.1 and One Pocket...lol

I was waiting for somebody to catch it...I caught it after I posted it...had to roll my own eyes...good catch! ;)

Jason <-- Plays pool like he does math...:frown:

I also watched Ralf Souquet miss the OB completely on a long extreme cut shot. I believe he actually turned green.
Another time I watched a rank amateur shoot a ball, drop his elbow rather violently and knock the Diamond light fixture cover into several pieces. He responded when questioned about how it happened, "I didn't know it was there." What did he think was lighting up the table surface, the sun?
