Do you drink alcohol when playing?

I've figured out that drinking and playing pool doesn't work for me at all. I have a table at my house and I play often. When I'm drinking, I'm useless.

I don't see how people can drink while they play. On league night, I tend to nurse the same beer all evening. It's now confirmed. Drinking and pool doesn't mix for me at all.

I play with a friend that is actually better when he's drunk. Huh? I don't get it?

Just a random thought as I put the cover on my table tonight.

I rarely ever drink to begin with at this point in my life, so no, I dont drink when I play.

Ive always found the whole "he gets better when hes drunk" thing, to be false. There are a lot of guys who think they play better inebriated, but their bankroll says otherwise.

One guy I used to play/gamble with a little (who I had never beat when he was sober), came in one night drunk off his ass with some of his friends. They were all bragging about how well he played drunk. I couldnt get over to him fast enough.

He didnt play better drunk either...... ;)

drinking while playing = doesn't seem to hurt my game
drunk while playing = hurts my game

I usually don't drink when I play, but my game's been so bad lately that I might as well be drunk.

There are few more enjoyable things than playing and drinking an evening away with good mates.

It smooths out the stroke, eliminates doubt and fear, but plays havoc with decision making.... and vision and coordination if inebriated to the extreme. That's a signal that it's time to sit down and talk about how good you were and could still be. :D

Try Vodka and carrot juice. You can get drunk but still see good.

If I am out for a social pool night, then I enjoy playing and drinking, I will also drink on league nights. I find if I start playing and drinking at the same time my game is unaffected as long as I am not actually drunk.

If I have a few beers elsewhere before I start playing, then I find it really hard to catch a gear at all.

I used to drink a little when I played... didn't hurt my game. But I done that for 30-40 years.

DWI's got to be expensive (although I never got one) so I quit drinking away from home. Doesn't do any good to win a few bucks & give it to the state. Plus have a record of some kind.

Yep. Now I get the handle.

When I first quit drinking, I my game went in the toilet for a couple months until I learned how to shoot sober. True story.

Actually the handle comes from dropping the last ball in the pocket and dropping the weight one carries on their shoulders.

If it were related to what you are referring to it would have been drop the powder lol!

Sober is pretty much always best for me but depends on the game. I can shoot okay in rotation games with a couple beers in me, but I'm at like a 2 IPA maximum before my game starts to go downhill.

With one pocket, sober is invariably the best mind state for me as the decision making process is as crucial to the game as shotmaking. If I'm drinking my thought process gets convoluted and eventually I say "quiet, you troublemaker" to my brain and just try to shoot at something.
