The pool playing community is a small world and you are afraid what you say/ask here will get back to someone that may put 2 and 2 together and figure out who you are and what you said here may effect you in "real life"???

I wouldn't say anything here I wouldn't say in real life. I'll tell everyone who I am and where I'm from. Are you hiding?????? Sam

VERY small world

And then sometimes we post while we are in a bad mood and have to apologize later for things. Just like in real life.

I think there are more of us who post our real names, or at least references to who we are, and where we live...than those that hide behind fake identities. I agree with what both satman and CueNCushion said...both statements are true!

I also agree. It's pretty easy to find me, just ask. Likewise I don't say anything on here that I wouldnt' say, or apologize for, in person.

it's really lame for ppl to post stuff n hope that others won't find out who they're in real life..
it sorta means they've stuff to hide and are ashamed to let ppl know their real identity..sad

Same here, that's why I use my real name. LOL, how many Timberly's do you know, especially in the pool world? With me, what you see is what you get.

I've had to apologize on here a few times. ;)

T-girl,
Be careful how you phrase this; we have LOTS of perverts around here (not me of course, but breakup could easily take this the wrong way).

I certainly agree that anonymity encourages bad behavior on the net.

I was SHOCKED when some guy I never saw in my life came up to me at the local pool hall last year and said, "hey, are you that Williebetmore guy; what's the deal with the AZB room?" While the pool community is a small one, the internet (especially AZB) has made it a closer knit one.

There are certain things I can't post here for obvious reasons, but that's because of my name that many here are familiar with.

I had a good player come up to me last night and ask, "Are you Matt_24 on AZ?". I just laughed and said, "Yeah...are you on there?" He replied that he just liked to read the posts.

Another good player from my way asked me as well, and even asked me to post a question or comment.

Nothing to hide here. These internet marauders made no sense to me.

It's funny that I also had someone recognize me.

I posted something silly like "Am I a banger" and I actually had someone tell me based on how I shot, that I was not, since he seen my game! It was great. I am very proud of the my game, and have no reason to brag or boast, or flame anybody here or on any MB.

I never say things I would not say in person. Some people don't follow this rule, and end up, tragically, like Fast Larry.

Ive only said one thing that was kind of mean on here towards a female pro and feel kind of bad that I posted what I posted - so now I try to watch what I say. If I do disagree with someone - i just do - its no put down - like everyone said - i would probably disagree in person. So everything I ever said on here I would say in person - except that one thing.

I think that's really dumb to do on an internet forum.

Why is it dumb that I post my name and where I live? There's a lot more information than that about me in the phone book, and you don't even need a computer to find it there.

I don't say anything on here I wouldn't say "in real life", because this IS real life. It's not like this board is a simulation of human communication. Those are humans reading your posts and replying. It's no different than talking to someone face to face, except here, some choose to be anonymous. Words are words, ideas are ideas, and communication is communication, regardless of medium.

Also, speaking of bumping into people face to face, I was recognized in a Fairfax, VA pool hall by Flex from this board, who I guess identified me because he heard people calling me by my first name, and he knows from the board that I hang out at that pool hall. Funny thing is, before we made the AZB connection, I had bumped into him there several times before, and even played him once. And he lives in Chicago! Small world...

I don't say anything I'm afraid to say to someone's face.
I do not promote my identity because basically, it is the internet, and you never know what the other anonymous SOB is thinking.
I have no problem introducing myself in person. (as I have to a few on here)

I stand by everything that I say here. If I'm wrong, I'll admit it and apologize as I have in the past but, I never say anything in the hopes that readers will not figure out who I am. I give my name and I've even posted where I'm from and where I play!

I said a few negative things a while back about a few female pros that I've met and it created a bit of a stir at the time. But I stand by what I said and I'd say it again, to their faces if the opportunity arose! I speak my mind and never try to hide behind a computer screen.

This can be an attention draw by all means. What really is great here is that even though we might slip up once and a while, we learn in the process. Lots of great stuff and I for one enjoy it immensely. Just like anything else in "real life", there are those that are the mathematicians and scientists, and there are those that are the "learn by experience".

I wouldn't take back a single post because I would lose some valuable insights that came back in response. I like it when posters just let it roll.

I was joking.

Hoboken has a small pool community, and while I'm very much a little fish in a little pond - I'm sure there are a couple of posters here who know me.

That said, I know someone who posted on another board with his real name. He even criticized others for posting anonymously, saying that posting with your real name would make people more likely to be civil.

That is- until he posted on a contraversial topic and began receiving threatening phone calls at work. He then began posting anonymously instead.

Ahh yes. I get jokes.
