Do you tip a TD who also played in the event?

I would vote no on this one. If the guy played in the event, cashed in the event, he clearly benefited from the event. I mean, if you lose to the guy in the finals do you then take your smaller cut of the purse and give him a piece of that?

A TD should make a reasonable amount for their time in straight up pay. Nothing crazy atm in this sport because noone is making much but a TD for a Friday Saturday Sunday tournament that is pro level with a 20k 1st place prize should be seeing $500 plus all of their expenses including travel, room, and food. It is hard work, but TBH it is a better job then most I have done for less money then that. I would rather TD a tournament for 12 hours a day then run Electrical Resistivity Tomography lines in muskeg swamp outside of Fort McMurray for 12 hour a day for the same money.

One extra I would chip in though, I am OK with the TD getting free entry into the event on top of their pay and expenses because if it is a job to them and they did not cash and the entry of the event ate up their rent money that sucks given they worked the whole weekend for squat at the end of that.

I think a tournament director should decline any offer of a tip from a player in the event.

The TD is the guy making up the flow chart, establishing the rules, and making calls during matches. He needs to remain unbiased and give no appearance of being biased. Accepting a tip from a player in one tournament can potentially lead to a conscious or subconcious bias in favor of that player, or the appearance of such a bias, in a future event.

TD's should be compensated in other ways, not from tips from players who did well in the event.

I agree with you but would like to say that once the offer is made, regardless of if he turns it down, the die is already cast. He may favor that person just because of the gesture......or the appearance of such.

I don't want the tip

After thinking about the tips I could of made if they tipped in the Northland, I agree that I think it's a bad idea.

I can just see that critical call with someone that has been known to tip the TD. Whether the call was right or wrong, players talk. I would hate for anyone to think I was playing favorites.

I always said that I would be rich if I wasn't so honest. My reputation in the pool world as a TD and Ref is far more important than the few bucks in tips.

TIP a TD??? Never heard of such a thing. I have run a couple hundred tournaments and at the end of the day I am THRILLED if I get the money I lent out during the course of the tournament (pool players not exactly being members of the Royal Family). Now..."taking care of the house" if your gambling and book a decent sized winner, that's reasonable. That being said...I have never run a tournament that paid out more than 10K...so maybe those 50K-100K payout tournaments are different. I know on the rare occasion I cashed in them...I never tipped.

thanks!

Several things could come up but just a couple off the top of my head is a favorable ruling to a player that has heavily tipped him in the past or allowing that same player more time when he is late for a match. What the igno is saying is there is the potential for perceived favoritism even if there isn't any.

Thanks! that is only some of the things. But to have a tournament director play in the same tournament in my opinion is just wrong.
If this is a handicapped tournament does everybody Agree on his rateing?
If he calls a foul on you & you don't agree who can you turn to?

I'm sorry if i'm sounding to strong but its my opinion.

I think in many areas it might be the only way to have tournaments, But it don't make it right.

If it wasn't for some people like that their wouldn't be any tournaments so you take what you can just to have a tournament.

Also I bet in some areas it can be done with no problems & my hats off to them.
