Does Anyone Choke Up On long shots?

Has anyone noticed any pros that choke up on long straight shots, cinch shots, or long slight cut shots? I’ve been doing it for as long as I can remember and make a very high percentage of them. If I keep my hand back on the butt where I shoot most shots my percentage goes way down on those shots. Every test of my stoke says it’s good and straight with the hand back further on the butt also. Does anyone else choke up on these kind of shots? Know of any pros that do it that I might find a video of? Johnnyt

Are you changing your bridge length? if not then you would have to follow your BH through further, finishing in a different position than your usual stroke. Not sure why you would want to introduce another variable into your mechanics. I believe for consistency you need to play all shots with the same mechanics except when there are physical limitation.

I am pretty sure Mika choked up quite a bit during the stream this past weekend. I noticed his right arm was not perpendicular, but slightly forward at impact of the cue stick with the cue ball.

Thank you. I'll give a look at his videos. I should just leave the "WHY" alone, but I'd like to see if anyone else does it. Johnnyt

I "choke up" on shots that demand exacting precision, but I also shorten my bridge length to compensate.

If a pro chokes on these shots he IS NOT a pro, plain and simple.

he is not talking about choking as in blowing the shot, he is talking about choking as in moving your hand up further on the handle.

i remember reading an article in billiard digest from rodney morris where he talked about chokign up to reduce power for softer shots so he could get a full follow through and not shoot as hard.
