Does anyone here play tournaments, league, or sets... 100% knowing they won't win?

Playing

I don't play league anymore, and I would never get into a money matchup where I did not have a chance to win. (I know my limitations, and it makes you a better gambler).

But I do play in tournaments where I pretty well know I will not win. In tournaments 32 players and under, I usually have a good chance at winning, but for 64 and 128 player tournaments, I am just hoping to get into the money. Two and three day tournaments are funny, because you can shoot lights out on 1 day, then come in the next day, and have problems. Plus, at 64, I am pretty much a weekend player, and don't play everyday like some of the younger sharpshooters do.

That wouldn't be a challenge, would it?

Like I've said in other posts, I don't play much anymore but if you'd like to find out if I'm dreaming or not, you can step up to the plate and find out for yourself.

Anytime, anywhere. You just have to bet enough to make it worth my time.

Com'on, man. Step up! I'd like to knock the rust off my game one more time and show you what's underneath.

Only with you, I don't think I'd have to practice for 6 weeks. More like 6 seconds.

Anytime, just let me know.

You'll have to pack a suit case because you'll have a long flight ahead of you.

Just how far is it to Fantasyland?

What you're saying is a little pond stands between him and me, right?

I think the time around the Mosconi Cup in London this December would be good. At the pool hall near King's Cross Station. I'll volunteer to referee.

Unless someone is afraid....

Sounds good to me with a guarantee from him that I can win enough to pay for my trip.

Always wanted a nice custom snooker cue. The M. Cup and a the cue might be a good reason to show up anyway. GO USA!

Hope life's treating you well, Bob.

Sorry to hijack the thread with this nonsense.

No, it'd be a piss-take. And what a bite!

As for playing you, I'd rather go fishing these days, where the tales are somewhat less tall.

LOL. Good one!

Enjoy the fishing. We'll want to hear about the "big one" that got away.

If I make it over for the M. Cup, I'll pm you and maybe we can go have a beer.

Sure, no problem. I'd be happy to play you, of course, but I don't gamble or drink any more, so it'd be social only.

BTW I have a John Parris snooker cue coming in the next few weeks - look out for it in the For Sale section. It's a Superior, I think.

That's OK cuz I gamble and drink enough for both of us. LOL

Seriously, I don't gamble much anymore but I can't say that about the drinking.

Crown Royale has not helped my pre-shot routine at all.

I'm with the select few here that don't see the point in donating to pros when I know I can learn just as much from watching them play as I can playing them. Actually I used to tell a few of the better players in town when they would ask if I wanted to play some that "sorry but I don't make donations". Fact is I've always learned more from watching better players then playing them since if I'm playing I'm not thinking about what they are doing only what I'm doing. I find I wear myself out faster if I worry about what they are doing all the time in a game/match. If I'm watching someone better then me play I'm trying to guess at what they are going to do and analyzing every little thing. Unless of course it's Efren then I'm just in awe of how much of a joke he makes the game look.

Now have I played in tournaments I thought my odds of winning were fairly low? Sure and I have placed in a few that no one thought I would but for the most part I play tournaments for the money. They all tend to be in places I don't care to be (bars) and it's a lot of sitting around waiting and not enough shooting for it to be fun to me. Sure in the past their have been a few tournaments around here that it was more about sitting around bs'ing with friends then the money but those tend to be few and far between.

Unlike most here I don't play pool to gamble. I rarely get enjoyment out of playing for money unless it's someone I really don't like or that pisses me off. Don't get me wrong anyone that knows me will tell you I play better under pressure as it makes me focus, but that doesn't mean I enjoy it.

I would much rather just play with friends for the hell of it as win or lose everyone is normally still having a good time.
