Does anyone know this cue?

Plastic rings were common, yes, even among some of the greats.

It's a shame we son't have a date on that catalog. I really appreciate you posting it. :)

On this same sort of topic:
I have an example of a cue model made in 1987, not a Rich but a US maker. The same model had been made since about 1969 according to the man who made them back then. The joint rings are different from the original version. The pin is different. The joint collar is different. And the later one has a bumper where the original did not. I know for sure it is the same model. I got it from the original owner, with the tags still on it, so it has the model number on it.

Subtle differences can differentiate when a cue was made. I love chasing that stuff down.

With this RICH Q catalog now posted, Abe Rich cue ID's will never be the same.

You are soooo right.

LOL!

I have the 1976 catalog. Not so clear...but I have it. But those cues are easy to ID.

I have been looking for this catalog.

There are others. There are post cards too.

Blue Book

Just to add confusion to an old discussion, this same cue is shown and identified in the Blue Book as a Frye, so maybe Doc copied a RICH Q design or vice versa?

Yup. One way or another, we see such designs were pretty common...who made what first? I dunno.

When I first saw this cue I got excited thinking it might be a Doc cue...and then went back and forth on it.

We also know there are some errors in the Blue Book.

Now that the post has been resurrected, I thought Doc as soon as I saw it again.

I am guessing you are still trying to chase down the maker of the cue you posted not long ago with pearl and brass rings in the butt.

Yes I am.

I will take another dozen detailed pics and then it is off for a refinish, rewrap, and a new proper period style shaft. My bet is that it's an east coast cue from NY/NJ.
