Does anyone know what wood this is?

I am the original owner of this cue and purchased it from Jazznpool (Martin) here on AZB. If I recall correctly, someone in Martin's original for sale thread for this cue said the wood appeared to be Honduran Mahogany. Probably the only way to find out for sure is to ask Ariel himself.
By the way, it's a great playing cue too!

The colors on everyone's monitors vary so it is really hard to identify wood on the web. The texture looks like mehogany, but the color does not. I deal a lot with East Indies Rosewood and you get some pieces that look just like that from time to time. I think it must be from the sap wood because I have seen some pieces that are blonde like that on one half and deep brownish purple on the other half. So I would lean toward Blonde Rosewood without seeing it in person. Also some non figured Shedua looks a lot like that.

If you are 100% sure you could tell with the cue in your hands I would be willing to mail it out to you. I had some JP's made and the colors didn't match well so I want to make the second time a charm.

Looks like Phillipine mahogany to me. If the cue is very light it may very well be. PM is not a very expensive wood and plentiful. The color of this cue seems toooo light for Honduran mahogany. Honduran mahogany is much denser also.

I would never say I could be 100% sure even if I was holding the cue. Talking to the builder would be your best bet. No matter what wood it is, you still have the problem of trying to match a piece up for joint protectors. Wood varies all over the place in color and grain pattern even within the same species, so you might never find a super close match.
I agree with your "Luan" guess Nipper. This cue was made from a Dufferin blank acquired from AZB's Mase a few years back. The wood is lightweight with nice texture, chatoyance (there's a Gilmer wood word for you:grin-square
and semi-open grain that finished nicely.

I looked up luan and it says it's a type of plywood. Can anyone get me in touch with ariel. At first it never bothered me that i didn't know I can't stop thinking about it.
