Does it seem like everyone is a Flipper / Reseller these days?

Yeah, I believe that somewhere in the $750 range might be reasonable for that Biagio Joss, for example. Definitely not over $1k though, but who knows. These sellers must not be hard up for sales. They do not mind letting a cue sit for 10 years, waiting on the right buyer to come along, lol.
$750 for that refinished cue? Maybe for an original.

I don't let it bother me anyway.

They own it. They can ask whatever they want. Sell it. Keep it. Burn it. Whatever.

Such things as asking prices do drive prices up though. Like it or not.

Sadly flippers are like the seagulls from Finding Nemo... They see these jacked-up prices and then they list their crap for equally jacked-up prices.

It all just creates this circle of nonsense and has made this crapflation of prices that is not connected to any real sense of worth or value or even a past sales history.

Just insanity...

Yeah, Nick Varner Series comes to mind when I think of Tyler. Can't recall ever seeing one for sale. They were a limited edition series, right? Must be very rare, I think.
I don't know how rare, but I missed it. Went for what I think is a nice price. No deals left on Ebay? I think this was a nice deal.
Completed Sale

Wow, yeah, that is really cool. It always amazes me about how weak the market is on Joss cues. I think they should go for a lot more money. And, that one is really unique.
I wanted it, but I already blew my cue budget for the month. So, I let it go. I really think it was a good price.

Notice it has the engraved joint collar that Joss used to do. Very cool.

That is something I have very rarely seen on Joss cues. The engraved joint. I always thought that was very cool.

I believe that a lot of interested bidders are very interested, but want to wait till the last few seconds to bid, but end up missing the auction, for various reasons. So, that might by why some do not sell for as much as they should. Doing a no reserve auction is always a big gamble, if starting the price out really low, for a valuable item. Just never know that at least a few good bidders will come through in the end.

I do not like the look of the forearm of that Joss though. I think it is kind of ugly. I like a highly figured forearm, and the more natural, the better. Like the Adam Balabushka cues for example. They usually had a really nice, highly figured BEM forearm on them.

Joss seemingly does not even use BEM in their forearms anymore. All I see on their stock cues these days is this very low grade looking Curly maple.

I'm not into the modern Joss designs. I'm mostly not into modern cues except for the customs, and even then I prefer traditional designs.

Yes, Joss has been using curly for a long time. That particular cue that sold isn't exactly what I would ideally want, but if that's the goal, good luck. They are few and far between. Getting fussy about which model or which wood just does not work with hunting such cues.

As far as sniping, yup. I am a sniper, BIN, or make offer guy. If you are bidding along the way, you are just driving the price up.

There are definitely deals still on Ebay. But you need to have a broad interest and knowledge. If you are going after the latest and greatest Predator color, well...good luck.

Another example of an Ebay deal. This early Gandy HC-145 cue sold Jan 30th this year for $190 with two shafts. It was sold as an "unknown" and looks to be in pretty nice condition. Yes, there were more detailed pictures.

Cues are like cars. They cost alot new. As soon as you buy it, worth far far less.now i see any 1100 jacoby used and for sale for for 1900. Where do these jokers come from. I love the jump breaks that some cuemaker I've never heard made made. He only made 5 so I'm listing for 1000. Then bump bump bump bump bump. I love the cowhide king case. Nobody wants it for anything near his price. Bump bump bump bump bump. The ultra rare gold letter joss worth 200 if you want to sell it. They list it rare750. Unknown maker sneaky pete, anywmwhere from 400 to 700. Not a chance. If you want to sell, you take a loss. Best to put your 700 cue in a dry closet and sell for 700 in about 20 years

supply and demand determine the value and what you can buy it for and sell it for.

the more you want to longer it takes to sell.

if it sells it wasn't overpriced except in the minds of those not wanting to pay that price.

flippers are merely wholesalers. just like a used car lot. they try to buy as cheap as they can and sell for as much as they can.
and are market makers where you dont have to hunt out an individual to find what you want and worry about getting scammed.

The worst right now to me is the predator bk rush’s . They keep making different colors which is fine but they sell out right away to flippers who triple the price butttt people are dumb enough to buy a rush for 2k Simply because predator painted it white so it’s on them.

Lol, that is nuts, in my opinion. $2k for a Painted cue? Lol.

If you price it right, it will sell.

I find deals all the time. What I do that most people wont, is I buy desirable items that need shaft(s) or a refinish or other work. I send them to a top knotch cue maker (friend) to have the work done.

When finished, I get a heavily discounted cue, that is in like new condition.

The other issue is people buying the wrong cues. Yeah Billy Bob may make the best cue that ever was, but when you go to sell it you are stuck with a cue that is tough to sell. I understand the market and try to buy cues that have high demand. It baffles me when people buy a Meucci for over $1000 (or other production cues). My experience is they lose value immediately, and get nowhere close to their original costs.

Maybe you are right but what I find is that there are very, very few practically new cues for sale. For example, McDermott sells the H-Series weight-adjustable-butt cues for $700+. But I don't find any used ones at all for sale. The same is true for Black Blade cues.

Can you give any guess as to what an pretty new H-series McDermott would sell for (or the Meucci you write about)? If they sell "nowhere close to their original costs" do you mean 40% or 50% off?

Everybody lists their chalked cues for pretty much what they paid for them . Not likely to sell. If you buy a new cue and want to sell it, expect to take a loss or keep it. The guys that want to get rid of a cue price lower and they sell. Most that do sell are prolly after a private offer. Cues are not good investments in the short term or ever. Why would I pay the cost of a new cue for a used one?

A few years ago, I had a like new $2,000 (retail value) Schon LTD cue, and I had a hard time getting $1,000 out of it. If a like new Schon struggles to bring half of its original retail value, then that right there shows how bad the cue market it.

And, I get the feeling that the people who do buy the cues that I need to sell are mostly flippers.

If you look at a Dishaw cue for example, you might think that a cue like that would be very desirable. I mean, just look at how beautiful they are. And, they are rarely seen for sale on the used market. But, the ones that I do see for sale, at a very reasonable asking price, just sit, unsold, for ages.

Jacoby is another example of a cue that loses at least 50% of its value the moment that it gets played with. I have even seen dealers trying to sell their brand new, never hit, Jacoby cues for 50% off retail. Jacoby are really good cues too, in my opinion. Very solid hitting cues. Really great LD shafts too. Both Maple and Carbon Fiber. Their resale values are just horrible though, for some reason.

These"dealers" get Jacobys for 50% off retail and i presume that's true for the rest of manufacturers. I bought the cheapest Jacoby. A laminated butt. I love it. Hits great. They all do. Most shafts are radial pin and that's popular. I see guys trying to sell them used for what they paid. That would be like buying a new car. Driving it for 100 miles and expecting to sell it for what you paid. Then they wonder why they won't sell.

I get a kick out of these cases for sale in the want ads. Used justice1350. Melton i think 700. You look at the interior and it's junk. Who buys that crap? Just because it's got a fancy name. Not me. I'll stick with JB for half the price and brand new.
