Does much cue trading go on at DCC?

I am going to be going to the DCC on Monday, but since I will not be playing (just watching), I wonder if it would be silly to bring my cue with.

I wonder if much buying, selling, trading goes on at DCC, and if so, where is the best place to do that sort of thing?

I have never been to the DCC before, and will be alone when I go, so I get the feeling that I will feel pretty lost there.

I am very shy, but would love to meet some of the players (probably will not have the confidence to though, lol).

Hoping to run into some players that I might know from the past, even though it has been over 15 years since I have been in the scene, but I imagine some of the players I knew in the past might be there.

Anyway, would maybe like to sell or trade my cue while I am there, but just not sure how I would go about trying to do that.

I do not want to try to trade with a dealer, because I do not think a dealer would offer me a fair trade if they would even be interested in what I have.

Anyways, I am excited about going for the 1st time and getting to see the pro's in person, but I know it will be kind if uncomfortable because I will be alone.

Hope I see some old friends while I am there, just not sure if it would be silly to bring my cue or not, since I will just be watching.

I am not sure if you have to be in the tournament to play on any of the tables , and what the costs are.

I only know how much it costs for the daily passes.

By the way, since I do not have a ride, I will be taking the Miller casino transit from Louisville at 9 am, and returning on that same bus at 3 pm to get back home (unless I run into anyone I know that will give me a ride back into Louisville later on after 3 pm).

Would love to stay later, but do not want to get stranded and have to take a taxi back into Louisville.

Thanks for any advice to a newcomer to the DCC.

If you can get there with this winter storm afoot, do bring your cue....you'd feel out of sorts without it.
What if you had a chance to get to play someone, or simply sell your cue, or trade up for a nicer one.

And I am calling you out about that being shy bullshit; that's a bunch of phooey as far as I'm concerned.

Why?

Well, it takes someone with a spine made of steel to publicly profess their perceived shortcomings.
Not many other Azers would have the marrow to post that......and I suspect there's more to you than
you give yourself credit for.....take your cue....go introduce yourself....say hi..... maybe get a new cue.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, it is true, I am a very shy person. Not quite as shy around pool players though (just so they are not well known top Pro's that I look at like they are Hollywood celebrities). I will not be able to introduce myself, or say hi to any of my favorite pro players (I would need help with that, lol). I know they are just regular people, but to me, they are gods. I just know I will be nervous being there by myself, and carrying around my cue that is in a cheap $10 J&J case, lol.

It's not the case......or the cues within........that makes the player.
It's the magic performed with one of those wooden wands.

Doesn't have to be pretty or expensive.......just be used excellently.

Yeah, I understand, but I know that everyone else will be carrying around super nice hand tooled custom cases, and feel that I will look pretty silly carrying around my 1x1 J&J tube case, lol.

Don't worry about that. Plenty of plain cases.

Lol! Did you see the cheap cue case Shane was showing off during a TAR podcast? He folded it in half and laughed, "Look... It even bends!" If SVB can carry his cue in a flimsy plastic envelope case, anybody can.

Just go and mingle. I am dreadfully shy myself, but I've learned to push myself over the years, and have had a lot of great things happen because I dug deep and pulled myself out of my shell. Believe me, few people will judge you because you aren't a world beater or because your equipment isn't as fancy as theirs. In fact, a lot of folks will be only too happy to pull their cues out and show them to you, and complimenting someone's beautiful and cherished possessions is a good way to make a lasting friend.

Nice reply. Thanks. Very beautiful dog by the way.

Justin, I'm a little shy myself.....
...shy about a hundred thou to buy a Mrecedes G Class...:o

PM me when you get here...we'll have a coffee with the Lion.
....I'm buying

That is a really nice offer. I would be very honored to meet Alex.

You're welcome! And thanks for the compliment about my Aussie. His name is a Tucker, and he's a big boy now. 49 pounds of playful exhuberance and affection. He's my constant companion, and will sit on the basement steps for hours watching me run balls. He's a herding breed, and probably thinks I'm herding the balls like livestock into holding pens.

"C'mon, Dad... try again... you almost got one through the gate that time. ;)

Anyway, have fun. Wish I was there. I won a free pass for the Accu-stats stream, but it's not like being there in person like you are going to be. And take PT109 up on that coffee offer. You'll not only get to meet Alex, you'll get to hang with PT. Sounds like a real win-win to me. ;)

Don't feel funny about that, I watch a guy win the SBE amateur open with what looked to be 10.00 soft case & sneaky pete. He won the open two or three times. What you're cue or case look like don't mean sh-t.

go have a great time i.m shy to but most of the players are friendly I've met thru the years can't go this year because of new job but always enjoy hanging with my good friend former womans champion mary kenniston and with Shannon daulton my other good friend both of them are great people to be around go up to them tell them I sent you

Go for it, man. The Derby is awesome. I'm a relatively quiet guy. Not necessarily shy, but I definitely don't go out of my way to cause problems or rock the boat. But, the first thing you're going to notice is that "the pros" are just normal people. You'll see them wandering around and doing all the things everybody else does. (I once took a leak at the urinal right next to Corey Deuel. True story.) And unless you catch them on their way to a match or just after a bad match, they'll almost always be SUPER cool and borderline flattered that you'd like to speak to them and maybe get an autograph.

As far as cue trading, you can do it. I traded a custom cue I had for another one (even Steven). I traded a cue I didn't want for a cue I did want. And it's still my player after three or four years. I gave up a little as far as "value" goes. But we were both happy with the deal so who cares, right?

Go. Have fun and soak up the experience. There's nothing quite like knowing you're in the center of the pool universe for however long you're there.

You really have to figure out how to stay later into the night. If you don't, you are going to miss the overwhelming majority of what you are there for.

You might ask around before take one in to sell or trade unless talking with a vendor. I know it goes on all the time. Trading and selling cues i mean. People have been ask to leave over this. IMO it should be a room that you have to pay to go in to do this. The vendors have to pay a lot of money to have a booth at these things and for people to be able to walk around and sell cues out of their case is just wrong to me. I was told if you are caught doing this at the expo anymore you will be ask to leave. Selling or trading to a vendor is a different story but any other sales should be banned. It has been lots of talk about this over the years from the vendors. Just think about it. It you have to paid 1500 to 3000 for a booth and others just bring cues in and sell them without having a booth. Would you be upset? Just a thought.

Some of the best players there will have equipment that looks like it came out of a dumpster. Don't sweat it.
