Does stain change the resonance of a cue?

I'm on a stream of silly questions these days, but I'm only curious because I'd like to know more about the cue I'd like to design one day--a stained, big-eyed birdseye forearm has always caught my attention.

Has anyone experienced stain changing the playability of a cue? I've been told that the finish can have an effect as well.

I've played with some of my cues, before the clearcoat was sprayed & then after. There is a definite difference. AFTER the clearcoat, the cue will play stiffer & basically more solid. As far as a stain, I can find no difference...JER
