never seen any reference to carom players during snooker broadcasts, they play pool in england, snooker players and pool players have crossed paths many times in both games, you have hybrid games like chinese 8 ball, uk 8 ball is big there

but never any carom cross overs despite the game being centralized in europe

what gives?

Blomdahl can run 100 at snooker and can also win matches at 9-ball.
Hoppe and Clark McConachy played game apiece a long time ago...
...Hoppe came out ahead as I recall.

When I was a kid, anybody I knew that could play well at all three
disciplines were all Americans.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no carom table in Great Britain. Think "insular". Kind of like the Americans having a "World Series" in that game they play that's like cricket but with a round bat and no tea break.

The also do carom in South America and Korea/Japan/Vietnam.

I've never seen a carom table here. Although to be fair, you're lucky to find even an American pool table outside of the 60 or so Rileys clubs and the handful of independent ones we have.

maybe it's just me, but I would be more than thrilled to see a top carom player enter a big snooker or pool tourney

"insular" is the world alright, but what are they not insular about?

Are you familiar with Russia? They have their own Snooker-like tables - and
just to make sure the game isn't too easy, they use Carom sized balls, or bigger.

So how about carom in the old USSR - any examples?

Also - the brits do still play a bit of the old English Billiards, once all the rage 'till
colonials out in The Raj invented Snooker...
It has some elements of carom straight rail -though they think it has something
to do with artillery :)

I believe Blomdahl has won a major 9 ball event...possibly the World Pool Masters, it was quite awhile back.
