Does your area have a local pool website?

Quite funny you posted this right now. I was thinking about the lack of one for our area just yesterday. Turns out there is a Joss Tour stop in a room about an hour from here, and I and no idea. Nothing posted in any of the three places I play at. The only way I found out about it was checking out Mike Dechaines new website when he posted about it here a few days ago, and found it on his schedule. I then asked myself why wasn't there a website talking about local locations, leagues, and special events. Mike Massey was here last fall, and I only heard about that from another local, not from any sort of publication.

I am trying to talk myself out of attempting to build one :o (I know that if I start it, I'll need to make a commitment to it that I'm not sure I can fulfill.)

I'm gonna look at the ones your linked. And hopefully not get too inspired... The folks who run websites like those, and this one, don't get enough thanks for what they do.

We have one, but it's just god-awful. http://www.stlpool.com I think I'm gonna email Jim and ask to take it over... at least update it so that it looks newer than 1995. Cuz, dayam, that's archaic.

More! More!

I agree with the easy to built but a huge commitment to maintain comment.

That is what makes AZ great!

There is definitely not a better way to get word around of that competition next door then that nice local web.

I tend to find most sites. If there are any activity at all, it is usually in the buy sell page.

Johnny is right. stlpool.com was started with good intentions but Jim has no time to bother with it and it has pretty much turned to a link site at this point. I volunteered to take it over for free but nothing ever happened.

I go here to see what is going on in Cali....and Western Region.

So. Cal is only about 4-5 hour drive from my house....So I go here in hopes that this will start up again so I can make some weekend trips to Cali tournaments......so far no luck...:frown:

Unfortunately I usually don't find out about good weekend added money events in So. Cal.....until after it happens.

Pool websites

We have 2 private groups on Facebook:

Wichita Pool Players - local and regional Pool Players group, 261 members
Pool Players - for Regional and National Pool Players, 128 members

Pool rooms post in our group about tournaments, matchups, and general Pool information. On our Challenge matches at Stix billiards, they have a commentator that describes the matches as they are played. For example, last night we had a Scotch Doubles match, race to 21, on a big table, for $250 a stick, winner takes all. The commentator describes what happened in each game played and post it to our private group for everyone to read.

Chicago

There are a couple of them here but they suck cause there is so much advertising and pop-ups that you cant do anything without adds or pole questions , I jsut stay away

We also have two FaceBook groups for our area:

Calgary Pool Action

Alberta Billiards

Some of the pool halls around have websites, although in my city we only have 1 hall and the site is not updated very often.

In addition I have two pages which I used to see how big the spread was between the popularity of 8 and 9 ball pool. I update them every so often and the 8-ball now has close to 2200 members. 9-ball is a little further behind with 160 members. :embarrassed2:

Like it's already been stated by Ken above, I've been running AZPoolScene.com for the last 4 years and it was started a little over 7 years by Ron Merseal the old owner of Alexander's in Glendale, AZ.

Last year we branched out and provide MyPoolScene.com to any and all areas that were looking to have a website for their pool.

The cool part about it is that we can setup the initial site for you and then have EVERY Pool Room, League Operator, Tournament Director, Bar Owner, etc. have an account and be able to upload information from their site and then it will consolidate as one site for the area.

This is exactly the kind of thing I am looking for as I'm currently building my new website. It's small right now, 87 members in a week and a half online,,,,,, but it will grow over time. The site still has alot of construction going on in the background, as we are still building the site, but the format and content structure is highly flexible as our goal is to meet public preference. We can easily set up a category, or tabbed page, for this type of info, by region, state, country,,,however it works for the public. I can gladly supply the venue, then all I would need is for members that would contribute content for their area by posting local events, establishments, tournaments, etc,,,,,,,to keep it useful and interesting. I can set mods for individual forums, etc,,,,,if you have ideas as to what you would like, and how you'd like to see it set up, just PM me and we can work it out.
Also, if you already have a site running for your area we can swap links and keep a running database of all such sites in one place. We welcome all ideas.

lol, I forgot about that logo. That would be me, under The Arch, so to speak.

One day Jim Buss comes into the pool room and says, "Let me take your picture. I need someone who looks good at the table for a silhouette."

For those that are interested,,,,I have just set up an entire section for players and room owners who wish to share where they play, what their room offers, local websites, basically anything local that you'd like to share about your local pool community, state by state. This can build into a great resource in the future for people with travel plans, etc,,,, to find places to play.

Please come by and participate in this to help build a reference for everyone to use,,,,,and advertise your rooms in the process.
