Don Mackey Back?

Mackey and the PBT likely doesn't "own" any of the PBT matches in a literal sense. It's a near-certainty that Mackey had someone assiduously videotape every PBT match that was broadcasted nationwide.

The broadcasted matches routinely had five commercial breaks -- for region-specific sponsors, as well as billiards-related products of national interest -- per broadcast hour, spaced 12 minutes apart, which usual resulted in missing games in any given hour of action due to network time constraints in a given time slot allotted to billiards.

As to ownership of the raw uncompressed footage (with no missing games), which generally far exceeded an hour, that's what you'll be learning about in your research.

Pat verified for me that Accu-Stats did not tape any of the PBT events. That was done by Prime Sports.

AFAIK PF is still the head honcho of the Int'l Open. Only 'retiring' from doing Accu-Stats after the sale to AZ.
Yes, nothing has changed as far as the International. Pat will still produce it and the videos will still be available through his PPV during the event and on DVD from Accu-Stats after the event.

''In 2021, a group of the top players reunited with former Commissioner Don Mackey to launch a reconstituted PBT.
Mackey proposed the group begin by digitizing and remastering over 100 hours of championship matches televised in the nineties on Prime Network, Fox Sports, Fox International, Sky Sports, ESPN, and networks around the world.
The “Legends of Billiards Series” will be streamed on various web-based platforms and the Pro Billiards Tour website.''

I wonder....who's on that list. ????

My guess is that, in a world in which matches involving these players can be viewed for free on Youtube, the demand won't be there for these matches unless they are free.
Stu, I've spoken to a few important guys who have some superb content (doesn't matter who) and, in my humble opinion, they're still stuck in the early 2000s, and 90s via how to get the content out while monetizing. I just shared my idea that they should split these matches up into multiple videos, create a YOUTUBE, TIKTOK and FB videos. With enough views and popularity it can be monetized versus PPV, and be a long-term, monthly source of consistent revenue. They replied that a video with a million views would only bring some arbitrary amount...but I don't think they were really looking at every source of potential revenue for a single, reasonably popular video. But, these folks did not forecast an immediate return that is desirable to them, so they immediately go with DVD/PPV, which I think is really limited. Pat was very smart in starting that YOUTUBE channel for Accu-stats, and in the LONG TERM I think it will prove an immeasurable success for Accu-stats. Building a popular channel, or platform for content is really the way to go these days. But, what do I know....

More precisely, Kim's eye was irreparably injured by an unseen, grass-hidden golf ball that was so-freakishly hurled at a very high velocity by the blades of a nearby maintenance mower being operated overly-close to Kim. The airborne ball ricocheted off a metal post next to Davenport’s practice tee, and struck him directly in the eye.

Kim later said “It knocked me right to the ground -- I didn’t know what happened. I couldn’t see a thing, and I was scared to death. An ambulance came and rushed me to the hospital.”

Don't know if Kim ever legally pursued a negligence causation suit regarding the tragic incident. Many of us would have done so, and others might assert that Kim should have halted play for a few minutes till the mowing equipment was well beyond his space.

He clearly heard the equipment, and quite conceivably he and the machine's operator very reasonably foresaw no danger in the proximity. It's even possible that the operator and Kim exchanged a brief mutual glance, and Kim giving him a friendly, dismissive wave conveying: "Keep working, I'm only practicing -- the noise isn't bothering me at all."

Arnaldo ~ Also possible that the mower's sound seemed far behind Kim and he would have felt totally unthreatened by it. I really shouldn't be conjecturing like this, about who was where. We know exactly what happened and how, but little more than that.
Its assumed risk when you go on a golf course. Mowers run over/sling golf balls all the time. Its as much the player's responsibility as it is the golf course staff. If i see a mower anywhere near me on the course i do not look towards it and usually try to use the cart as a shield til he's gone. IIRC Kim's deal happened at a driving range. Ball ricocheted off something and hit him in the eye. Bad roll.

Weird, I'm replying to myself, Mac is back????????????????????????????????? deja vu. Really!

That is a very good question. I don't see any matches in the catalog that are labeled as PBT. Pat would know for sure, but I will be finding out.

During some of the Prime and other matches that were televised there was a separate camera or two that was used by AccuStats, so there are matches that AccuStats has that were also recorded with different cameras and commentators. For example the one I just watched this past week you can see Nick Varner across the other side of the room in the Prime booth. There are also very likely matches that were televised that AccuStats could not get in to record their side.

Wasn't the Sands Regent tournaments part of the Tour? I know they had their logo on there, but maybe I'm mistaken about who's banner that was or it was just a sponsor.

I did notice the PBT poster at the recent Reno Open video we premiered.

I agree with you. Even short reel type videos of great shots/outs like Chris Melling's 8-ball out could really draw some viewers and lead back to the match. Maybe even get more youngsters interested in pool.

Yes, I've seen that one a million times. And guess what, popular FACEBOOK videos with lots of views make money! Burning DVDS is now akin to you saying I'm going to put this match on laser disc. I gave away all of my DVDs...everything is on some form of streaming now.
