If the guy was showing uncharacteristic stress, then he was likely already tired from the long day & at the end of his rope with having to play doubles. Playing doubles means he could not stretch out & play his game. Both partners share the good with the bad, and naturally he will dwell on the bad. A long day of doubles is sure to wear on a guy. So no, you didn't do anything wrong.
Not everybody is cut out for doubles. Team chemistry goes a long way. Some folks are simply better off by themselves & struggle when they are teamed up. A state champ is used to having control of the game, being responsible for both winning and losing. Having a teammate removes that control.
