Dowel mill

The crunchenmunching beast .
No way he gets close to his asking price. Good luck to him.

I paid $2000 in 2006 after looking for over a year for one and it looked like this but I get extra cutting heads with it.Then I spent time and more money fixing it up I just have to do it. IMG_0103.jpg

Thats about standard rate for a used one, the only problem is this one looks to be very horrible shape.

I paid same price but I also got a 2 belt verticle pole sander with the doweling machine.

My doweling machine is the least used piece of equipment used in my shop considering the time it is actually used.

That being said it saves more time than any equipment I own.

5/4" shaft squares to 1" rounds in 15 seconds.

1.5" X 18" turning squares to in about 10 seconds.

No dust or chips in the shop.

If you can get a good working machine and cutters cheap, don't hesitate.

JMO.

Watkins Glen? Big Dog?

I remember this guy now. This guy was accused of being involved in the a ripoff of a cue, or several, some while back.
No one remembers?
Drives a fancy 'Vett and a Harley.
Baaaad news.
There was a BIG flap about it. I'm too busy right now to research it, but I'm not wrong.

I normally get them as well, there seems to be a spacer in the middle of the cutting head that should be able to change out but mine is locked in place.
The point of it is just to get it round if your worried about it being clean then get the dowel sander haha
Honestly i dint use mine as often but i have rounded pieces for 3 other cuemakers at 1 buck to 1.50 a piece i put through they were happy to paythat rather than turn them by hand.
I dont have to burn up routers or go through bits as often. So that in itself the machine has paid for itself.

Is there a negative to clipping the corners off with a bandsaw or table saw? We have fixtures that would allow this to happen and would coming out octagonal and round in one easy pass with a router.

They do not produce straight dowels, just round ones. You're thinking of a lathe.

I would guess Joe puts them through a dowel sander after taking them from square to round.

After turning square to round, I single point mine true on the lathe before coring👻

No way he does that....all of the ones I received thru his ebay store had flats and were not straight, and had the serrated track marks from the auto-feed of the dowel machine ...quite contrary to his sales pitch ......

Dave,

The handles I buy from Joe from his website are perfectly smooth and round. I put centers on them and take 2 single point light passes on the so they are true centers before coring them.

They are a real good deal at 3.75 ea.

^^^every dowel I've ever gotten from him was just like that, with a dog leg at one end and feed marks. I asked him about it before I had my dowel mill and he thought it might be "shipping shock" I guess it doesn't matter now, since I know that it is the machine causing it.

I think that reduces the stress on the wood and the router.

I thought sanding dowels cause too much heat. Like the ones you get from Canada.
The ones I got from Ebay eons ago had flats and tooth marks on two sides.

I like sanded dowels better. Easy to see the grains and easier to center hole.

Here is the way I get handles from Joe. 20" long sanded round and smooth.

I got a box in my spay room with the last order I made with Joe and I grabbed 3 and took some pics.

Maybe you and Dave are ordering something different. Give Joe a call.

I always stock up when he offers the sale price of 3.75 each. I can't buy squares for that price from my other suppliers.
