can anyone tell of the quality and ring count of the atlas shaft dowels

If I were you, in your position, I would contact Atlas (-Eric@atlasfibre.com-) and ask them to confirm for you, what you might expect as far as ring-count, etc.
They're the ones selling the product, let them tell you what they've got.
 
I got some of their top grade , didn't get what I paid for ... For Real !!! Bought some unsorted from Cuebux and they were reasonable ... You can email Charlie at truebuilt1@aol.com or call 517-202-2935 ... He is a reputable guy who deals with alot of maple ...:cool:
 
never tried them from Atlas but i could make a guess.:eek:

Eric gave you one of the best if not the best source period for shafts in the reply above.
 
I bought a few 13.5 mm shafts from atlas for a few j/b cues a few years back. They aren't bad. They guarantee straightness as long as no work was done on thier finished tapered shafts.

i tried asking with their people in germany as i wanted to buy from there as the shipping from atlas in usa is allways more than the cost of the materials as they insist on using ups,
anyway the answer i got back was not helpfull as they said they did not count the rings and would not do so in the future either

Here is another source that has become available since Bill McDaniels retired while the shaft wood is not the pretty White stuff, and it may have some sugar marks or grain run off the shafts were cut 20+ years ago so they are well aged. Tommy is only selecting the shaft wood that is straight and I personally think for the price it will be hard to beat.
